At 12 miles, after signing the papers, noticed spot weld dimples in the door.
Had to have hood insulator replaced at 6,000.
3rd brake light broke at 10,000.
New battery at 18,000 and 34,000.
Seat back handle on passenger seat broke off at 28,000 miles.
Replaced the alternator at 30,000 miles.
Had to have supplemental restraint system (Air Bag) repaired at 40,000 miles.
New water pump, heater core, and a/c compressor at 53,000.
I bought this truck because I thought it would be a good family vehicle. After the $29,000 sticker and the 2,500 in a/c and cooling system repairs, this truck just gets more and more expensive.
The latest happening to it now at 54,000 is a ticking noise from one of the output shafts.
I will dump this truck at the next chance I get. This is way to much for me to pay.
I think this truck was built with all the parts that the manufacturer did not want to put into the other trucks.
We purchased a 99 chevrolet blazer, ZR2, within a month we noticed the headlights weren't adjusted, one was aiming straight ahead while one was aiming up at trees, it took 3 visits to dealer to get repaired, then the rear hatch button wouldn't work, they replaced, then the pump on the rear windshield washer was broke they replaced, all within year,, now the seat handle on driver side has broke off and the one on passenger isn't looking much better, the steering wheel rubs when cold, it won;t start unless you wait for a pump in back to quit and now after warranty has run out at 57.000 miles the fuel gage goes back and forth between full and half,, we are very dissatisfied in this blazer, will buy jeep next,
I also have a 1999 Blazer, and have had similar problems--alternator, a/c compressor, water pump, third brake light, stereo CD problem, ball joint replaced, instrument panel replaced, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something.
Battery out at 18k and again at 34k, what kind of battery did you put in the second time, its probably not the cars fault the 2nd battery went out, sounds like a cheap battery.
I also own a 1999 Blazer with very similar problems. The fuel gauge quit working at approx 25,000 miles. It was "certified" vehicle so the dealer fixed it, but it took 6 trips to the dealer and 3 rental cars (at their) expense to realize it was the sending unit. They also forgot to bolt the fuel tank straps tight and after 3 weeks of a rattle in the rear end I isolated the problem and tightened them myself. Now I have a sound in the front end that sounds like a bad CV joint or ball joint. Seat lever broke on passenger side just after purchase. Oil leaks on lines to what I suspect is an oil cooler. This vehicle has been nothing but problems from the start. I would like to purchase US made vehicles, but not if they are going to drain my wallet and sanity. Other problem with after market silencer alarm system always going off. I disabled it before one of my neighbors disabled me.
I too own a 1999 chevy blazer, at 80000 miles the front hub assembly went out, then the rear wheel seal, the door hinge on the drivers side, water pump, has a oil leak, finally the fuel gauge is not working. Want to dump it asap.
1997 Chevy Blazer Owner. Heat went $350.00, Breaks twice $1200 each, Driver Side window leaks, Ball Joint and Idle arm repair $1300. Will never buy Chevy again.
1999 Blazer here. I traded down for this vehicle. Boy did I trade down. Gas gauge out, CD player took a dump, replaced breaks, rotars twice in two months, still screeching almost to embarrassment. Now the Heater Coil is out and my vehicle smells like burnt chicken!! Another few problems, the driver's side power seat only works when it wants to. The passenger side seat no longer reclines, and has to be locked in all the way back. Both door panels are loose. My day time running lights stopped working and had to be turned on manually, but now they are back working again. I will never own another Chevy Blazer. I am going to Jeep also.
I own a 2001 Chevy Blazer. The idle arm and ball joint just went out at 87,000. Guess that's not an uncommon problem, with any of the year models. Got quoted a price of about $700 to replace the two parts.
I also own a 99 Blazer LT. I purchased it leaving college with an extended warranty. Since then, ball joints, heating core, alarm, oil coolant lines, and alternator have all been replaced. I got another oil change today, and the same problem with the oil coolant lines happened again. The pins in the driver side door are shot, the moonroof gets stuck, and the rear wiper motor is out. The worst part, I got a new car and this is my wife's car. How many more things are going to happen to this car? Never own a chevy again. I am gonna hear it about this one.
I recently purchased a 1999 Blazer used. I think I go one of the above. Ball joints, wheel hubs, gas gauge don't work now, went through two fuel pumps and it's still on blocks. Had to have an engine replaced at 90,000, both front seats reclining handles are broken, driver's door hinges are shot. I'm afraid to put the key in the ignition anymore.
HI I have a 1999 Blazer LS... And most things that went wrong with it are things that do. But the thing I hate is my Service soon light is always going on. I take it to get checked and most of the time there is not a thing wrong. It drives me nut. So I put tape over it. I get my Blazer serviced every 3 to 4,000 miles. Even with the thing I hate about it, I will never sell it. I guess I got a good one of the lot that was made.
I have a 1999 Blazer LT. Best SUV I've ever bought. Nothing has ever gone wrong. I have 134,000 miles on her. No signs of failure!!
I also have a 2001 chevy blazer ball joints went out had to replace fuel injection system $1400 and gass gauge dose not work either also ready to dump asap.
I've read all of the other comments on this page and I feel that I must add. I have a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer LS. No, it's not a 4x4. And I do not understand what is wrong with the rest of yours, but mine has over 100,000 miles on it and the only thing I need to repair was the battery and alternator, spark plugs and wires. And with a vehicle with that many miles on it is just normal maintance. Other than that, my Blazer has never given me a problem. I wanted to leave a comment to let everyone know that 1: you may not be treating you vehicle the proper way. They are not indestructable and they are not cheap to fix. And 2: please, do not insult the American automobile. There are thousands and thousands of Americans like you and me putting hundreds of man-hours to make the vehicles that you see on the road every day. And they work hard doing it. Thank you for your time.
I to own a 1999 Chevy Blazer, since I have owned it I have replaced the following items, Cd player, ball joint both sidees, idle arm, door pins twice transmission filter 3 times, in the first year. The second year I replaced the fuel filter system, wheel hubs, twice. The ball joints again. I lose heat every other week. I have a strange ticking coming out of the dash board, if I hit the brakes it stops. now I have a leak some wear between the bell housing and engine. I always wanted a chevy blazer, I like the style and the fact that it was a Chevy. I can say now it is really disappointing. I will never buy another again.
