I bought a 2000 Jimmy SLE brand new in 2001 after driving a 1989 Jimmy for 11 near trouble free years (185,000 miles).

My first major shock with my 2000 Jimmy was the need for a new transmission at about 75,000 miles ($3200.00). Shortly after that an oil cooling line had to be replaced. The Truck now has 120,000 miles on it and the radiator had to be replaced (O.K. that could be considered normal). I now have an annoying whine in the front end which has been diagnosed as front wheel bearings ($600.00 per side). This will probably be my last GM vehicle.

We have 2000 GMC Jimmy,, and I'm seeing a lot of the same problems,, fuel gage, door pins, wheel bearing.. NOW the big one hit,, when you take off from a stop it runs till 4000 rpms until it shifts and then it shift from 1st to 3rd (it skips 2nd gear) and it does not have reverse,, I'm assuming these happen at the same time.. if anyone knows what is the cause of this (besides it being a piece of junk) please email me.. any info will be greatly appreciated. ham_006@hotmail.com.

I bought a 2001 Jimmy, used in 2003. I have had to replace the bearings and the driver side window motor. It currently has 90,000 miles. I have had no heat in my car for a year and a half. (Thankfully I live in California and only wake up to ice a few days out of the year!) I got a quote to replace the heater core for $1,200!! The heater core only cost $100, but the labor to put it in is the killer! I love my Jimmy, but wish it held together a bit better!

I purchased my 2000 Jimmy new in 2000. I purchased the extended warranty and my wife thought I was throwing money away for buying the extension. Now she doesn't feel that way as it paid for itself twice over.

The problems are just as mentioned. After the warranty ran out last year with 80,000 miles, I have had the second fuel pump go out, a transmission rebuilt and now I have a radiator leak. It is going on the sell block as soon as I get the radiator problem fixed, hopefully today.

This Jimmy has had a major malfunction at least once a year since I bought it. And I kept it well maintained to prevent such problems.

Look out Toyota and Honda, here I come. And I used to say I'd never buy a foreign car.

Can you spell LEMON, guys. Why isn't GMC doing something about this '2000 JIMMY. I have had problems with:

Driver's side window

Front end noise

Stalling

Gas gauge

Rear wiper fluid

Flashers

Turning signals.

And other money sucking problems. This is my only means of transportation and I am screwed. Thanks GMC. I can't afford another truck and I can't afford to keep this bucket of bolts. If anyone hears of a CLASS ACTION I'm in.

Wow! You guys are scaring me. I bought a 2000 GMC Jimmy/Envoy a little over a year ago; 167,000 Mi. Rear wiper inoperable, and gas gauge falls off at 1/8 of a tank. Other than that has been a great car. I'm assuming the previous owner took care of all the problems. Oh yes, forgot about rear discs; completely rusted away, but pads were fine. (Can only hope I got a freak).

Same problems as mentioned above. The final problem started when JIMMY started to stall with no warning signs. Just cut off. Now it won't start at all... I need help. I bought this junk pile 2 months ago and now I have a lawn ornament. WHY ARE IS A BIG COMPANY LIKE GMC ALLOWED TO GET AWAY WITH MASS PRODUCING LEMONS. It's so unfair... this used to be the Best American Auto Company, but now they suck.

I have a 2001 SLE Jimmy. The gas gauge is messed up, and I have just now experienced no heat, in the dead of winter!!!

The truck runs like a dream, good gas mileage, and great stereo.

I would like to know what happens when a heater core goes out. I thought it odd that a vehicle with just 62,000 miles on it could have a problem, like heat. If anyone can give me a suggestion about how to check out the heater core to see if it is bad, pass it on.

There are no leaks on the pavement or the interior of the truck. It is 4 wheel drive, four door, and runs like a dream. HELP!!!

I just bought it used in September of this year from a GMC dealer. Help!!!

I've had my 2000 Jimmy for 3 years and it has been a great car. It has had some problems, but so has every car I've ever owned, including Acuras, Hondas, Toyotas and other American cars.

Those of you that have the heater core problem may be interested in the DexCool class action. The court did not grant class status, but below is info from the law firm that represented owners:

I have a 2001 GMC JIMMY. My heat stop working for almost 2 years now. I live in Maryland so went winter hits I am wearing two jackets in my car. (So embrassing) I replaced my radiator and thermostat twice. My car finally overheated on me a week ago. And I had to tow it to the shop. Turns out I need a water pump, radiator, thermostat, and now I also need a heating core if I want my heat to work. I don't even want to say the cost of all this, but you all know that it was costly. I thought maybe it was just my car, but when I search and found this website. I know now that its the make fault. I would never ever buy a GMC vehicle again. I never spent this much money when I had a camry.

Gotta love that Dexcool. It is junk. If you do all that work to your truck, DO NOT PUT DEXCOOL BACK IN IT!!! There is a universal mix you can get (green) and it works much better. I used it in my 97 S-10 (4.3L) Had the same trouble, even had to replace my lower intake gaskets, radiator, 2 heater cores, thermostat. WHAT A PAIN!!!

2000 jimmy -98k transmissio 125k heater core

i found out if you run your dexi-crapcoolant low it will cook and turn into sludge stoping up your rad. and heater core

110k fuel pressure regulator that requires pulling the complete valve body, I did all the work myself alone with several phone call to my freind that is a mechanic so I going to try the heater core now. thank god for chilton auto manuels

ps if your heater core is not leaking and you you have no heat

try flushing your raiator then remove the two heater hose and useing a air compressor blow copressed air into the inlet tube of the heater core and watch the nasty dexisludge comr out of the other end (use safety glases and an old shirt 0.

I own a 2000 GMC Jimmy SLE and I love it. Its one of the best trucks I've ever owned, (the best being a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder). Its coming up on 100,000 miles and I've only had to do basic up keep, with the exception of a thermostat and a broken strut, and the strut was my fault. I've never had any of the problems that the other posters have had and I would love to know what they do to theirs to have these problems.

I bought a 2000 GMC Jimmy (4x4) back in July of 2006 with 73k miles (one prior owner, with most service records intact... very well taken care of... heck, it still looks beautiful!). In addition, I bought a warranty (against my better judgment, or so I thought) from AUL through the dealer. The same day I took delivery, the fuel pump died (AUL covered it for $700). Eight days later, while driving south through a rough section of Chicago (and pulling a UHaul trailer), the alternator quit (AUL covered it for $280). Needless to say, I'm lad now I bought the policy... it's paid for itself at this point, and I've got 4K miles left to go before it expires.

In late 2006 I started getting even crappier gas mileage than normal, and after replacing the fuel pressure regulator, still had the problem. Dropped the gas tank and it turns out the return line going to the fuel pump had been pinched nearly shut. When & how this happened, I don't know... the tank hadn't been touched since I had the fuel pump replaced. Got a replacement return line from a junk yard and the problem went away.

The rear windshield washer doesn't spray anymore... upon further investigation, the plastic feed-line that runs under the cargo area carpet had separated from a junction connector. After the first several rounds of hitting the washer fluid button with no result, a wet spot the size of a CD appeared in the cargo area... the junction is right under it. Would have to remove the star bolts that hold the tie-down points to roll the carpet up and push the supply line back on the junction, and I don't have the right size star head with which to back the bolts out... irritating!!!

Had the passenger side seat lever just break off in my wife's hand... (too expensive to try to replace that... the shaft coming out of the mechanism sheared off (it looks like pot metal... probably some parts contractor saving money)... the handle itself is fine). That was irritating. Shortly thereafter the driver's side front caliper seized up and had to be replaced.

More recently, the 4x4 has been making a horrible chattering noise whenever I engage it (fortunately, I don't have to do that often). Yesterday, one of the front wheels (think its the driver's side one) started making this horrible clunk-grind noise quite loudly. My best guess is the wheel bearing has gone.

Then yesterday afternoon (about 25 miles from home), the Jimmy started just randomly cutting out (glad I'm not on the highway). I would wait 3-5 minutes and then it would restart just fine and run for another 5 minutes... then with no warning it would cut out again. I repeated this all the way home... I discovered that if I accelerated very gradually coming off of starts and then didn't make any sudden changes in acceleration while driving, then it wouldn't cut out as often. I've purchased a new fuel filter and will install that myself tomorrow. I hope that will solve the issue, but from what I've read on this series of posts, I'm concerned it won't...

I've been fond of my Jimmy for the past couple years I've owned it, but lately I've been starting to wonder. I'm still upside-down on the loan (about $1600 left before I catch up with Blue Book value), and I'm starting to wish I could sell it now... Oh well, we shall see.

Oh, and one other thing that has bothered me since I bought it... the lights (especially noticeable inside, but the headlights do it too) will all flicker... with no apparent relation to anything I'm doing at the time. Talk about an irritation! I've read postings elsewhere that mention this, but I haven't yet found a solution. Oy Vey!!!
