"And we pay 4 to 5 times for a new car today than what they cost 30 years ago."
Yes. This is called inflation.
I have always loved Apollos, I saw a picture of one once, when I was younger. I finally found one, just stumbled across it today, it's a '74 four door, the man wants $700 for it. It needs some work, but I'm snatching this chance up!!
I was born in the sixties and grew up with Novas and Chevelles. A few weeks ago as I was going to buy a 74 Nova that I had been looking at for a while (same as my 1st car) I ran across a 73 Apollo. It was the sharpest looking non-Nova Nova look-a-like I had ever seen. I bought it on the spot. I liked it because it was different, though the front end had to grow on me. (as did the 73-74 Nova) Well after only driving it twice to date, I come home everyday from work with a big ole grin on my face when I see her sitting in the driveway. I can't wait until spring gets here when I can get out there and put a little elbow grease on her to restore her to original luster. Cheese! from 1 happy non-Nova owner!
I have a 1974 Buick Apollo, 2 dr, which my first husband and I purchased used in 1978 before the birth of our 3rd child.
It has been garaged for years now, I cannot remember what the specific mechanical problems were which put my poor car there. The "Green Bean" as my children named it, is in danger of being sent to automotive hell!
My second husband wants to trash it!
Somebody please give me a word of encouragement!
I have a 1968 Buick Riviera GS (only 5500 made?) which he will touch OVER MY DEAD BODY!
Unfortunately, my son doesn't want either car, and neither do my daughters.
Perhaps I should donate it to the local Vo Tech automotive school?
Sell it?
Marry a motor head who would love to restore my dear vehicles? (I also have a $600 1973 green Volvo which needs TLC!)
Seriously, I could use some advice here!
Thank you!!!
Do not trash that Apollo! There is someone out there who will buy it and nurse it back to health.
My first car (in 1981) was a 1974 Buick Apollo. It got me back and forth between home (NJ) and college (GA) without much trouble. I kept it until 1988 when my sister "needed a car". She managed to kill it in short order.
Fast forward to 2005 when I found one on eBay that needed to be purchased. Haven't got it on the road yet, too many other projects, but it looks good in the garage.
To summarize, do not trash that Apollo!
My name is Sean and I am about to buy a 1974 four door Buick Apollo and frankly I know nothing about them I have heard good things about them.
I have a 1974 Buick Apollo 2dr 350 2brl all original. It is my first old-school and I am very proud to own this rare car. I live in Sacramento CA and have never seen another one, except in a auto-trader. It has a carburetor problem buts that's about it. The car came in very good condition and I drive it every day. I feel the same way as the other owners of this classic chromed out ride and will never let it go. I plan to sup it up fiercely and slap sum 24s on it, like us youngstas do out here, but I will save all the original parts. Hope 2 see one of you on Route 66.
Hi I bet my 4gear Apollo is rare. bought 1988 for $300. 1988. only one on pep!
I am the proud owner of a '74 Buick Apollo as well. Fully restored in 1990 and given to me as a graduation present from my dad. My husband would also like to see me sell her because she we keep her in storage now, But I'll never sell her. Most people would kill to have their first car... I still have mine. Long live the Apollo!
