We have a 2003 Sorento LX which was purchased new. My husband is at this moment replacing the headlights, for the 4th time. For his birthday (September) I purchased some PIAA headlights for him. Now March and both have been replaced. We also have had a continuous problem with the clock display, it being replaced once and now gone again. We just don't want to deal with it again. The headlight issue is of concern though since we find now others are having this problem.

I own a 2004 kia Sorrento EX 28,000 mls. "headlight problem" you're not kidding. Willing to be contacted, or meet in chat with other owners. I am CURRENTLY comlaining at the corporate VP and COO of consumer satisfaction, after 10 days playing, company KIA game of suposed accountability. It's Obviously now that from the dealer up it is policy to sell the car, not make the customer, for life with family/friend referalls. Because prior to actually experiencing their lack of "love", I referred 5 people, I thought I had finally found "love" in a car!!! "SILLY ME" makes ZERO reason that price adverising and alot of company effort goes to absolutley nothing in the long run...... NADINE

Headlight and taillight problems here too. I have an '03 which now has 85,000 miles on it. I have replaced the headlights several times, and am now starting to experience taillight problems. Also, my car has always vibrated when stopping, especially when I have to do a quick stop from a high rate of speed. I have taken it in several times for this and have had the rotors filed and an alignment, and it still happens. Other than that though I have been very happy with it. It is a very dependable vehicle.

Had the same problem with the electrics and problem was voltage regulator giving too much current to various electrical components. Headlights went after driving long trips since they got real warm and popped. Headlights go first since they are electrical components that do not cope with too high current. Rest of the components do not mind an extra couple of volts too much, but headlights get too warm.

I bought a new 2004 Kia Sorento and have been happy until now. Dealership has had it for the past two weeks and I found out today they are replacing the short block. It only has 63,000 miles and the repair is covered by the warranty, but an engine replacement is totally shocking and unexpected. This has me wondering what I'm in store for in the future...

Kia will not acknowledge the headlamp problems they are having, but it has nothing to do with overcharging. headlamp placement is actually an engineering issue, where they are taking on too much vibration while driving, causing them to shorten life expectancy. There are some things that can be done to add longer life to your headlamps.

1. use only Sylvania bulbs part #2357LL

2. do not touch the bulb with your bare fingers, the oils from your hand shorten bulb life.

3. do not leave your lights on all day, since sorento's do not have daytime lights many people run them all day, shortens the life expectancy.

4. do not just turn your car off with lights still on, sure they go out, but as soon as the vehicle gets keyed on they receive a small surge that also taxes them.

About Kia's brake rotors in general, they are very soft metal. they wear easily and should not under any circumstances be cut. many dealers will do this for you if ask, but the thinner the rotor gets, the hotter it gets, the hotter it gets, the more chance it has to warp. always replace rotors with pads on kia. take extra care to brake early and not ride brakes if you live in hilly areas. kia is constantly trying to upgrade rotor material, because they know thay have a problem.

I am not supporting kia with my comments, I am a kia technician, but believe me, not a fan. I am a level 3 master kia technician.

I have a 2003 Sorento which I bought with 10 miles on it. I have had continuous headlamp and taillamp blowouts... Since I live alone, not very many people are around who will tell me when my tail lights are blown. I understand the comments about shortening the life expectancy of the bulb... and I don't mind replacing them, because I *do* drive with my lights on all the time... but what's the easiest way to get to the low beams? I have torn my hands apart trying to get to the passenger side, which I finally just removed the air filter and was able to get to it with help from a friend... but the driver side, I cannot even get my fingers around, and there are no parts that I can visibly remove to get to it. Any ideas?

Hi.

I Noted the comment from the Kia tech regarding the known engineering problem with the headlights in the Sorento. I have an optima that is a headlight nightmare. Is engineering also the the source of the problem for this model. If so, what do you recommend for a more durable bulb replacement.

Thanks.

Mary E.

I have an 05 Sorento and couldn't be happier with it. 53,000 miles and nary a problem till now. I have gone through 2 headlights on each side, but, then again I leave them on all the time. They have many hours of run time before they burn out. However, now my electric locks, on the passenger side doors are making noise (a loud buzzing sound) when lock or unlock the doors. Also my power drivers seat won't move back (i think it's just the switch). But even with these two issues at 53,000 miles I thinks it's been a great ride.

I am interested though if anyone else has had the door lock issue show up.

I have 3 cars and one of them is a 2004 Kia Sorento, about 22,700 miles. My wife and I have been checking the mileage from our house to work since we bought this car. The reason we are checking is that I was amazed one time when I went to visit my aunt which is exactly 220 mile from my house. I have visited my aunt about 50 times in the past 3 years and I compared the mileage to my other cars and boom their differences is huge more than 8 miles. the mileage that I have now on my Kia Sorento, it should bee aroun 21,900 miles.

I am not sure how to pursue this, but if anyone who can help is greatly appreciated.

To all please check your odometer range against your other cars.

I know for sure that the kia Sorento is off for 0.04 of every mile.

Have an '04 Sorento. Agree with the Sylvania bulb comment, they seem to last the longest. Just went into shop for timing belt. Dealer had to do twice. Timing was out after first attempt.

Broken front diff carrier, lost all the gear oil. Repaired under warranty.

Vacuum leak, replaced all gaskets on intake system. Warranty item.

Replaced brake rotors twice, buy the cheapest ones you can get, high end rotors don't seem to last any longer.

Worried about post warranty.

Fuel mileage is terrible for a vehicle this size.

Too bad, it's a nice ride. Wouldn't buy another KIA product.

Well, where oh where do I start with the problems that I've experienced with my 2003 Sorento that I bought from new with next to nothing on the clock? It has been notorious for burning out headlamps and a couple of tail lamps. But the major issues that I've had is that I'm on my 3rd radiator, my 2nd coolant bottle, a couple of blown hoses and a fitting, sensor on the transmission went out, check engine light on numerous times. It has been a nightmare - nothing, but cooling issues and a mystery brake issue, whereby the brakes jam on and grind the engine to a stop - but when it's towed to the dealership, they can't find anything wrong with it! I'm sick and fed up with the lemon that we bought, I'm 8 months away from having the thing paid off, and I don't know if its gonna make it! I thought that these things were supposed to happen AFTER you've paid it off?! While at the dealership the other day, a lady came up to me while my husband was under the hood looking at the broke-down SUV and asked me how I liked my Sorento - I told her that it was a mechanical nightmare and advised her not to buy one - to go with something else. The dealership here I think is crap, they charge you to find out what is wrong with the vehicle and other than routine warranty work, they don't see to give a damn about fixing the problem! They make me feel like I'm making it up when I tell them that its got another problem and they can't replicate the issue.

I have a 2005 Kia Sorento which I purchased new and I also had just today the problem with the buzzing sound on the rear side doors when locking the doors. Does not occur when unlocking. I have made an appointment to take it to the dealership next week. I'm sure it will be covered under warranty.

I didn't have my 2005 Sorrento 2 months before the rear passenger side door locks started buzzing when the lock was engaged. Not sure what the cause was, but I took it to the dealer. They fixed it & I haven't had a recurrence of this problem in the last 2 years. Wish they could do something about the annual battery replacements.
