1995 Dodge Neon Highline review from North America
"Low cost initially, high cost to maintain"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Head gasket at 39,000 miles.
Oxygen sensor at 34,000 miles.
Air condition freon leaks, several from 38,000 to 61,000 miles.
Ignition wires at 50,000 miles.
Horn at 31,000 miles.
Turn signal switch at 30,000 miles.
Front brakes, calipers and rotors at 40,000 miles.
Oil leak at 55,000 (not head gasket).
In the shop now, for who knows what. Driving it home the Check Engine light came on and it barely was driveable.
General comments?
Overall the car is fun to drive due to its overall decent performing 2.4 DOHC engine. My major complaint is that the AC has been a major pain due to the freon leaks that ended up costing me over 1500 dollars to correct and that is even with the dealer picking up a couple repairs themselves. Also, think the car is pretty cheap, but I guess that you get what you pay for especially if it American engineered.
I had a Tercel for over 10 years and 80K miles with only a few minor problems, nothing like the Neon.
