2002 Peugeot 307 Rapier 110 HDi review from UK and Ireland
"Competent family car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Sometimes electrical system "reset" whilst driving, with complete loss of power to lights and instruments.
Glove box difficult to open, and has been replaced.
Rear passenger door will not open from outside; new part needed.
Mild rattling from engine when cold caused by loose heat-shield.
Carpet comes adrift regularly in drivers footwell where it meets door trim.
General comments?
Engine is excellent. Pulls well at very low revs which really helps town drive-ability. Great mid-range torque means you can be lazy on gear-changes. Engine cannopt be heard above 70mph. Economy 43mpg regardless of how can is driven.
Interior packaging good, with plenty of space for oddments (huge improvement over 306). As much room inside as a 406, but more practical. Interior quality is best ever for Peugeot, but still room for improvement.
Bizarre delay to electrical equipment working after being told to (esp horn and headlight flasher) is somewhat disturbing.
Handling is safe and car attacks bends with reasonable enthusiasm, but less balanced than a 306 or 406. Ride is well controlled at speed, but car seems to be taken by surprise by sharp low speed bumps which cause a loud thud to resonate through interior, esp. from rear suspension.
Overall a fine car with a little fettling needed. Good value at around 14k with Peugeot dealer 5% discount.
