1999 Oldsmobile Alero 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Fast, sleek, uncomfortable, and a brake system nightmare

Faults:

Front rotors replaced at 26000 under warranty.

Front rotors replaced again at 58000.

Rear brakes replaced at 60000. Big bucks.

Switch on passenger door for automatic window does not function unless the driver wiggles the window lock/unlock button from the drivers door.

Struts needs replaced at 58000.

Brake booster pump bad at 58000.

General Comments:

The car is quick, and handles well.

However, compared to my company car (a Ford Taurus), the drivers seat is NOT very comfortable. I cannot drive long distances in this car without back pain. My Taurus just feels great, and I can drive 1000 mile in a day and be free of back pain.

I would not purchase this car again, cannot with until it is paid for so I can sell it.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero GLS Coupe 3.4L V6 from North America

Summary:

A great car for the youthful buyer or the youthful at heart!

Faults:

None to date.

General Comments:

This car is extremely sporty and fits the type of person I am. It has all of the luxury features that I like in a sportier car with a decent price and excellent mileage for its model year. It has everything, sunroof, leather, fog lights, powerful and sophisticated V-6, well laid out controls, and comfortable seating. The only thing I don't like is that the fog lights shut off when you switch the brights on, but other than that I love this car!

Fog lights are designed to turn off when your high beams are on. This prevents you from completely flooding oncoming traffic with light. If your brights are up in their face, they can still look down below.

There was actually a recall on early-90's Grand Prixs because of this.

1999 Oldsmobile Alero GL 4 cylinder. from North America

Summary:

Not very reliable

Faults:

Drivers side window motor broke got it fixed under warranty. a couple months later is just stopped rolling down now it is off track and will have to replace entire window.

Rear window motor broke was fixed under warranty, but used an after market part and won't roll down as far as opposite side.

Calipers needed replaced.

Air conditioner went out-twice.

Battery cables need to be replaced they won't stay tight and the car won't start often.

Factory speakers blew in the first month we had it probably due to the bad cd player which wouldn't play most cds.

Power seats broke the first day we had it.

General Comments:

The cars looks nice and handles well, but a lot seems to go wrong with it for a car with 60000 miles on it.

I bought a 2002 Alero about one and a half years ago. Since then I've put three calipers on, brand new brakes twice (over 1500 dollars altogether). Most recently the engine blew up and will have to be replaced which will be another 1000 dollars. Oh yea, I still owe 7000 on it, nice!

When I first bought the car, I was enjoying the sporty handling and it's good looks. Now, I am ready for an SUV.

It's time to move on and rid myself of this nightmare of a car!
