1999 Dodge Intrepid review from North America
"A good looking car that doesn't run."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I bought this car brand new in 1999. At first we absolutely loved it. It was roomy, looked great, and rode good. I was proud of the car. A few small things went wrong (see below), but that is to be expected. However, on 11/26/03, the engine blew! This car only has 88,000 miles on it. I was astounded that a car engine would blow at 88,000 miles, especially a car that cost me $22,000.00! After speaking with my mechanic, I found out this was not unusual. We live in a small town, and in the last couple of months, he's seen FOUR engines do the same thing. We bought a used motor from a salvage yard, and the owner told me that the price has gone up 135% THIS YEAR on the 2.7 liter Chrysler engine. He has sold over 15 of these engines since the beginning of this year. That is a lot for such a small area. I contacted the local Dodge dealer, who told me they had never heard of a problem like this. Yeah, right. Then, I contacted Daimler Chrysler in Michigan, who told me they had never heard of a problem like this. Yeah, right. As anyone can tell, just do a search on the Internet, and you will literally find HUNDREDS of cases where this has happened.
The windshield washer fluid pump never worked.
The driver's side window motor had to be replaced.
General comments?
Chrysler doesn't stand behind their products. As I said, I really liked this car at first. And if Chrysler had said, "Yeah, you're right. This motor has been having troubles, and we'll fix it for you.", then I would be happy to own another Chrysler product, because I would know they would stand behind it. But when they outright LIED and said they had never heard of this problem, that was too much for me! I will never own another Chrysler product.
