1991 Citroen AX dtr review from UK and Ireland
"Unreliable due to gasket failure problems"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I bought the car from a female owner who had parked it up after a head gasket failure this vehicle has had a recurring history of head gasket failure, I replaced the gasket at 141000 miles, and the head gasket fails on average about every 6000 miles despite meticulous rebuilds, apart from this the car is durable.
General comments?
In my opinion the cooling system of this car shows bad design with no viable header tank, or air bleed to allow air to escape from cylinder head water jacket, this allowing the car to run excessively hot or overheat, this in conjunction with the combination of alloy block with iron liners places excessive thermal and mechanical stress on the head gasket, causing regular premature failure,
