1991 Citroen AX GT 1.4 Sportif from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A bit of a slug - but still a reliable little piece of machinery

Faults:

Two rust spots above each of the front tyres under the bonnet.

Drum brakes - worn shoes.

Tail pipe replacement.

New Eng. Coil.

Replacement fuel filter and fuel pump.

General Comments:

When I first purchased the AX I was pleasantly surprised how nippy she was.

However I purchased the car in February and in the eight months that I have owned it there has been an ongoing problem that I cabt get rid of - Chugging or 'Kangeroo Juice' It has been in and out of the garage more than its been on the road, and I have had plenty of work done - New spark plugs, the carburetor has been cleaned, new fuel pump... but no one has been able to get rid of the chugging.

1991 Citroen AX GT 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A quick little car

Faults:

Headlights not working when picked up.

Drivers electric window not working.

Badly rusted fuel filler cap.

General Comments:

Well my GT is in a good overall condition, nothing that requires any big spending. so I can't really complain.

It handles well and its outstandingly quick for a 1360cc.

However the cabin looks like it was designed by a blind French person who hand no hands and no design qualifications!

Its well worth taking the time to look for a well maintained model, there are some out there!

1991 Citroen AX GT 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fast, cheap pocket rocket, but ugly as hell inside

Faults:

Clutch feels like it's on it's way out.

Body kit starting to fall off in places.

General Comments:

Paid the princely sum of £500 for my AX GT, the mileage is sky high at just over 104,000 but it has been real well looked after, there is a tiny bit of rust, but it's hidden by the door so you can't really see it. For a 1.4 litre engine this little car absolutely flies, although the clutch feels like it's on it's last legs and with my driving style I can't see it lasting much longer. Once they're cleaned up and have had a couple of coats of T Cut and had the body kit repainted they look great, however the interior looks like it was designed by a blind man working in the dark, it's bloody awful and it rattles and squeaks like mad which drives me crazy. I really want to love this car, but I just can't, it is quick and they look good outside, I just can't live with the interior, I'll be selling it soon to get something else : (

Totally agree with your comments, especially the clutch just bought mine. For £500, 84'000 miles. clutch seems to be very deep, I think its on its way out, but overall fun to drive, but not that much fun to look at...don't even get me started on the interior. (Shudder)...

1991 Citroen AX GT 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The ax and The Furious

Faults:

Brakes needed changing.

Fuel Pump needed changing.

General Comments:

What can I say. Absolutely brilliant! it is so nippy and just accelerates to its heart content. I have only had this car three months now and I am truly satisfied with it.

These are the modifications I have carried out.

Sports Brakes.

500 Limited Edition Wheels.

Hardened and Lowered the Suspension by 35mm.

Fitted a new Exhaust System that sparks when accelerating, really sweet.

A new Filter Kit.

Imported body Kit for front, back and sides.

Chrome Pedals.

Chrome Gear Stick.

Bucket Seats. Only Two in the Car.

New 70mm circle in diameter head lamps, two on the left and two on the right.

Sprayed white and has blue flame stickers down the side of the car.

This car really is off The Fast And The Furious.

I must say that this car costs a hell of a lot to insure and is really digging into my pocket. Some people say I have done too much to my car in too little time, but all that matters is what I get out of it at the end of the day. The car feels like a new Theme Park ride everyday. In the short time I have raced a Citroen Saxo 1.6i, well what do you think, the ax powered away within 50 yards.

I must honestly say that this car is my dream and is one of the faster cars I have driven. If you don't believe me I will be happy to prove it sometime.

I must also add that the Racing Chip and Turbo Kits are well on there way.

Good review I agree with all the things you've said, sounds like you've done yours up real nice.

What exhaust system have you got? Sounds very nice. I'm interested because I'm getting a new exhaust system, but not sure what to get at the moment.
