2001 Ford Ranger XLT review from North America
"Biggest pile of junk I've ever owned"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
FORD RANGER XLT 4x4.
Bought the truck in March of 2004. It had 17,000 miles on it then. It now has 48,000.
At 23,000 the transmission went out.
At 28,000 the Fuel Pump went out.
At 33,000 I was told by the dealer during a regular maintenance visit that I needed both upper ball joints replaced.
At 38,000 the top brake light seal failed and the inside of my truck was getting soaked every time it rained.
At 47,000 I had to replace the front brakes.
At 48,000 the Pinion seal on the front drive shaft started leaking as well as the left front axle seal.
The dealer replaced the pinion seal 3 times before figuring out the yoke on the drive shaft was grooved and that was part of the problem.
The truck has very little power and the transmission never shifts when it needs to unless you press the accelerator to the floor.
General comments?
This truck is junk. I will never buy another FORD product as long as I am driving. In my opinion, their quality has really gone downhill over the last few years.
I always wanted to stay with American made products, but the next truck I buy will be a TOYOTA! At least they are dependable.
