2000 Hyundai Accent GLS review from Indonesia
"An unreliable car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Hyundai Accent was known as an inexpensive and affordable compact car. I bought it in 2000 after I did a thorough research via internet and other sources.
The car was OK and fun to drive except for the relatively loud sound coming from its engine.
Series of problem came after the car reached around 50,000 miles (3 years of usage). The strange smoke were generated from its exhaust and gradually its volume and density were increased. I checked to the local mechanic and they said there were something wrong with the valve seal or piston ring.
They suggested to overhaul the car. I was very disappointed, how can I relatively new car had to go an overhaul.
So I kept using it without following the mechanic's suggestion, but gradually the smoke became more and more. To avoid more damage to the engine, I used my other car for my daily use and sometimes used my Accent for short travelling. Almost all the time my Accent was parked in my garage.
I decided to sell it in 2005 when its price were at the bottom.
General comments?
The car was OK if you buy it from new, but be careful if you buy a used car as this car will give you headache.
