2000 Hyundai Accent GL 1.5 from North America

Summary:

Junk

Faults:

I bought a 2000 Hyundai Accent Gl brand new. This was the beginning of a horror show that still has not ended.

The car has only 34k on it. Here is a list of problems:

Water pump.

Power steering pump.

Hinges on the hood snapped causing the hood to crinkle.

Cable that controls the rear window tangled up, causing the window not to work.

Horn died!

Map sensor went at 26k.

Car vibrates when idling in drive.

Don't let Hyundai's 10 year 100,000 mile get you into buying one of their autos. Cheap parts, cheap junk cars.

General Comments:

Hyundai makes some of the cheapest cars to purchase, but some of the most expensive to repair! Be warned, look for another auto make.

2000 Hyundai Accent GS 1.5 SOHC from North America

Summary:

It's been a nightmare

Faults:

My wife bought this car and first thing to go wrong was the tape deck fried.

Then the transmission wouldn't switch past 2nd gear within a year of owning it; the dealer said there was nothing wrong with it; guess they thought it was a 2 speed?? So after driving around on the highway for 2 months on 2nd gear, they finally replaced the transmission.

All 4 wheel bearings replaced

Struts replaced

Mass air flow sensor failed

Still getting transmission codes intermittently

Started burning oil and blowing smoke after 5 years

Failed the emissions test last month, so got the valve stem seals replaced; failed again. Replaced the O2 sensor; failed again. Got a conditional pass so it only cost me $1200 in one month to get my license sticker!!

General Comments:

I just got the job of my life with the railroad, and this car is threatening to end it for me and send me back to the minimum wage world. Rather than having money for expenses like gas and hotel when I'm far from home, I'm going to have to sleep in the back seat instead with no shower for 9 days because the money was spent on keeping it running.

I have a sick feeling that something serious is going to go wrong with this car when I'm on the highway soon, and this car will be the cause of my death. I can just imagine the tie rods and ball joints failing; this thing must be made of tin.

I my shelf failed the emmisions test due to the 02 sensor the mass airflow sensore and heater sensor. i replaced the 02 sensor and mass air flow even the computer. still don't pass. so I think it's a problem with the year of car.

2000 Hyundai Accent GL from North America

Summary:

An affordable and reliable machine

Faults:

In the 6 years I've had this car, only one thing has gone wrong. I had to replace the radiator hose. It was no longer covered by warranty, but was an easy fix, I did it myself.

Another problem is the clock. The buttons to set it don't work. This isn't a big problem as my stereo has a clock in it so I haven't bothered to do anything about it, and it hasn't bothered me.

General Comments:

This is a very good car, very reliable. Obviously you have to keep it maintained.

It is also surprisingly comfortable, I drive 30 minutes to school and back everyday and the seats really keep you stable and supported.

Don't expect any performance from this car (especially from the automatic). It's just a simple car, meant to take you from point A to point B. The lack of power is funny when you're climbing a hill and a giant truck passes you pulling something.
