2001 Volkswagen Polo review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
EPC LIGHT
I have read a number of listings regarding the EPC LIGHT on VW vehicles, in particular the POLO model.
If the EPC light should show (and when checked, for no electronic reason) CHECK THE CAMSHAFT TIMING AND THE CONDITION OF THE ASSOCIATED ROLLERS IMMEDIATELY.
When the fault memory is checked it may give an err' report of something like..... 17961 sensor altitude/intake manifold unlikely ratio.
The engine loses power and as one person reported "Sounds like a bag of nails" the bag of nails sound may well be that the CAMBELT HAS JUMPED A COUPLE OF TEETH due to the outer shell of the rollers breaking up, (as they do on a regular basis) the engine will still run like this with the valves tapping the pistons STOP THE ENGINE AND CHECK.
