1999 Nissan Maxima GE review from North America
"Good driver's car, rugged"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Power loss on hard acceleration.
After reading many other entries on this site
about the 2000 Maxima performance problems, similar
to the problem I was experiencing, that under hard
acceleration such as up the on ramp, it would
be fine up to 3500 RPM and then just faded and
gained speed slowly. Otherwise ran fine. Because of
the high mileage I decided to replace the fuel
filter. From my experience as a GM mechanic, (retired for 15 years) I
thought the fuel tank would have to be removed
for access to screen mounted on the pump. Was
happy to find that pump could be removed through
an access cover under the rear seat. After re-
placing the dirty screen for $14.00 the problem
was fixed I have my 227 HP back!
The noise just after start up is the starter
pinion gear coasting to a stop. I have same
noise, but not worried about it.
General comments?
I like the Max. and the performance.
Trans. 1-2 shift is too soft, cuts down on acceleration.
Steering not as precise as previosly owned Accord.
