1993 Geo Tracker 1.6 4 cylinder

Summary:

Good looking little 4+4!

Faults:

The only thing that went wrong with this car was the 4+4 locks were stuck, and had to be turned with pliers and the horn stopped working for a little while. It also had a small amount of rust.

General Comments:

This has been a great little 4+4 so fare!

However it has a little bit of rust.

This Geo is great off-road!

It's gone up steep hills, and in deep mud and water!

It's exterior is in great shape.

The interior is unique and very sharp!

The Geo tracker is an all-around great SUV!

I had the same problem with my tracker. It is easy to fix. Remove the six bolts pull out lock clean and re-grease. That should make them very easy to turn.

My wife's 1993 Tracker had the same problem with the front hubs being stuck in the free position. I was able to turn one with a pair of pliers, but the other one wouldn't budge.

I solved the problem by spraying the hubs with WD-40, making sure I soaked them well and letting it sit for about half an hour. Then I gave the hubs a few good wacks with a rubber mallet and alas, the hubs are now easy to turn by hand!

1993 Geo Tracker LSi 2 Door 1.6

Summary:

Money well spent and very economical

Faults:

I have had to replace the brakes pads and that was no big deal. Also, the valve cover gaskets leaked slightly. That was like a $15 dollar repair. No major problems so far. It is very reliable.

General Comments:

Again, my Tracker is very reliable and gets me where I need to go. I slid off in the ditch on ice and hit an embankment going about 30 mph and it didn't even hurt my car. They are definitely a tough little buggy. I love my Tracker.

1993 Geo Tracker

Summary:

The best car I have owned.

Faults:

Fuel pump had to be replaced at 108,000 miles. $600 for the pump from the dealer. I couldn't get one from anywhere else.

Threads in the soft top dissolve quickly. Garage kept.

General Comments:

I love my tracker. Other than the dealership trying to rob me by saying additional things were wrong, that really weren't, when I had fuel pump replaced, I have almost no complaints.

I am buying my third soft top for it tomorrow because the threads dissolve quickly. Considering they run $250+, it gets rather annoying. Supposedly the newer tops use better threads, hopefully that will be true.

This car has been completely reliable. The only time it didn't start up quickly and perfectly was when the fuel pump went out.

I am also replacing my first headlight tomorrow. Not bad for ten years.

I have had no problems with rust or any of the interior plastic.

The ride is pretty rough, it shakes horribly on rough roads. The suspension could be a lot better.

I am alittle worried that the Mitsubishi ECM (the car's computer) will go out soon. Supposedly they are defective if manufactured between 88-95. That will be about $600 more.

The interior light is very dim.

It handles very well.

It has been a super car. I will never sell it. Very reliable. I can't tell a difference between the day I got it and today, it runs like new.

Well its been over two years and 12,000 miles since I posted the review above. Since then the water pump went out. I replaced it, some hoses, all the belts, and the thermostat. The muffler rusted, and I replaced it. The car started running a bit hot on hot (Florida) days with the AC turned on. I had been planning on getting that looked at and fixed, but every weekend I was going to a hurricane decided to visit and postpone the repairs.

Those repairs will probably never happen. Two nights ago someone ran into my parked tracker and totaled it. I will miss it. Trackers built around this year are really dependable and in my experience require few repairs. I will probably get another tracker of this model. Either that or a new CR-V.
