1997 Chevrolet Cavalier RS 2.4 from North America

Summary:

A dependable, good-looking car

Faults:

The front brakes went out after four years (about 73,000 miles). The rotors and pads were replaced.

Plastic pieces from the seat belts and other places in the back seats have been falling off.

Something might be wrong with the head gasket. I am not sure. Coolant is missing, but it has been checked for external and internal leaks. The results were negative.

It was recalled right away for the transmission casing.

Also a computer sensor malfunctioned causing one of the service lights to stay on. This was under warranty.

The radio antennae periodically becomes loose causing the radio to sound fuzzy.

General Comments:

It is kind of noisy. The car drove fairly smooth the first year or two, but slowly proved to give a bumpy ride.

It is really not that comfortable for passengers in the back seat.

Although I listed many negative things about the car, there are so many more positive things I can say about it. I really like my car. I love my car.

It has never stalled or left me stranded anywhere (knock on wood). I still haven't had to change the battery. And it started for me during all the winters after it had sat outside all night. It didn't start for me one time during this past harsh winter.

I really like the looks of the Rally Sport model. And I love the Deep Purple color that was available that year.

1997 Chevrolet Cavalier Z22 2.2 litre from North America

Summary:

Great bargain!

Faults:

Rear struts.

Strut mounts.

Steering rack.

Stereo.

General Comments:

I bought the car as a left-over 1997 model in the summer of 1998. Upon buying the car, I drove it across Canada (literally East to West), and over the 6 days I found it to be a comfortable, reliable vehicle with OK performance.

Its fuel economy might have been a little high, however the engine was new and not yet broken in, and I understand this to be acceptable.

Overall, I enjoy the car and would recommend the Cavalier to anyone who seeks efficiency, a sporty look, comfort and a nice price tag.

No offence but it's Z24, not 22.

No offence to the one who commented before me. There is such a thing as a Z22, I have one...

The z22 is a decal package in Canada. It is just a sticker and a spoiler.

There is a difference between a Standard Cavalier, Z22 and a Z24 for the '97 model. '97 Cavalier had a 2L, Z22 a 2.2L and a Z24 had a 2.4L that's besides several other extras...

1997 Chevrolet Cavalier from North America

Summary:

The worst car ever built, not even worth a penny

Faults:

Brakes, alternator, rack and pinion, several engine problems, waterpump, and fuel pump.

General Comments:

I can not believe a car that new could break down so much. I was very disappointed and will never buy another car from Chevy. Any company that can produce such a horrible car is not one I want to take a chance with.

I have an 85' Cavalier that we bought brand new and it is still going strong. It has almost 300,000 miles on it, we're in the military and have travelled all over the world and shipped our Cavalier to every country we lived in. Once it was dropped out of its shipping crate, rolled downhill hit a wall, then was rear-ended by the crate and only need minor body work. You just can't kill this car. Maybe you just bought a lemon.

1997 Chevrolet Cavalier LS from North America

Summary:

Sporty, yet dependable

Faults:

After about 6 months I need a new battery and a new set of tires.

The only thing bad about the convertible is that you must replace the strips or it will leak.

General Comments:

I love my car. I am a college student and is always on the go. It is very dependable and in January I will be purchasing a 2000 Convertible.
