2001 Chevrolet Cavalier 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Good

Faults:

I have a 2001 Chevy Cavalier with 123000 miles.

The engine light and Trac off/low would come on with jerking, and the car would slow down. I had to pull over and restart the car. It would drive OK again, but act up again a week later.

I finally took it in to an auto service that specialized in electrical problems. They replaced the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). It has been driving better than when I first purchased it 2 years ago. Hope this helps.

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Base 2.2L SFI (134ci) from North America

Summary:

People's car

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with the car as of yet.

General Comments:

Comfortable ride at an affordable cost. Purchased the vehicle from a private seller, bought for $2900. Very good deal, has lots of go with the big 2.2L 4 cylinder coupled with the 5-speed manual transmission.

I am very satisfied. It has great power steering, and a big air conditioner with an even bigger blower.

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier from North America

Summary:

Very good condition and reliable

Faults:

The car has a loud noise near the alternator belt and timing chain. It drives exceptionally well, however, the noise concerns me because my daughter plans to drive the car to college this year about 200 miles from here. I have been told by Advance Auto it is not the engine. I would certainly like to know the cause of the problem and an approximate repair cost if someone has had this experience.

It leaks into the back drivers side seat and trunk when it rains. I have given up on this problem and my daughter never seemed to notice or care.

General Comments:

I purchased this 2001, 2 door coupe from a friend who purchased it for his daughter. I figured buying it was a pretty safe move, and it has been.

My friend had some type brake light problem that he found the solution to. My daughter drove it during her senior year in High School, except for the noise there were no mechanical problems.

The car has sat in the driveway for nine months, and she drives it every two months o so when she comes home for a couple of days. I replaced a six year old battry a couple of day ago at Advance Auto, other than that no other problems.

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier from North America

Summary:

Good ride and good on gas

Faults:

The trac off light comes on and the check engine light. I took it in to my mechanic, and it was some minor work needed.

One year later, the trac off light and engine light came on around the time I needed an oil change. At the time I was low on motor oil in the car. Once that was taken care of, the lights went off.

I think the Cavalier is sensitive and comes on when work is needed. If taken care of early, it may be minor work. Look for a good mechanic that you can trust. Yes it does make noise, but it is a smooth ride.

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier from North America

Summary:

No way I would buy another one

Faults:

When I go to put in reverse, it will sit still, do nothing, then I put the gear into drive, then put back into park, then put into drive and it will move with a loud bang (with a shifting movement in the car).

General Comments:

Due to the fact only 53,000 miles on it, and now this kind of trouble, thoroughly disgusted.

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier from North America

Summary:

Excellent!!

Faults:

This car is the best car I have ever owned. I have had zero issues with this vehicle.

General Comments:

Sure the car the pretty much the bottom of the barrel when it comes to looks, however the only money I have spent on this vehicle is just basic general maintenance.

I replaced the rear brake shoes at 150,000 kms. At that time I also replaced the original tires, spark plugs and fuel filter (and I only did that because I felt I should, the car ran like a million bucks) and that is it.

I am in the process of looking for a new vehicle, but I'm finding it difficult to find anything that is as reliable as my Cavalier.

I cannot praise this car anymore. If I would be assured that the next car I purchased would be as dependable as this car, I would buy it tomorrow; until then I will continue my search.

The only reason that I have decided to change vehicles is that I am now in the need of a smaller pick-up truck, so my sweet-ride needs to go, but believe me, I'm in no hurry to get rid of it.
