1989 Chevrolet Cavalier Z-24 from North America - Comments

"This is an awesome car that has lasted for a VERY long time with relatively no problems"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Torque converter switch had to be replaced by the dealer when I first bought the vehicle.

Alternator died after pushing it quite.

Hard with a powerful stereo system.

Heater core went simply due to age.

Air conditioner no longer works, but I think it's just a matter of recharging the system.

General comments?

The look of this car is what caught my eye initially on the dealer's lot.

One test drive and I was sold on it's speed and handling abilities.

I was looking for a decent car that would reliable drive my back and forth about 100 miles to college 2-3 times a week. This task was accomplished easily for 3 years. It even made it to Florida (2000+ miles) several times.

Because of my work, I have been required to buy a more practical vehicle for carrying equipment, but I have kept the Z24 as a "summer vehicle".

With a custom paint job, and not much else, this vehicle still turns heads everywhere it goes.

Although I must admit that the car is getting a bit old and more parts are likely to need replacing, this is still a fun car to drive and would buy another just like it if they were still making them.

Hey

I just recently bought a 1988 Chevy Cavalier Z24, but I have had some problems with it running. I just put a new fuel pump, filter, and all of that, but it seems not to be getting any gas in the engine, any suggestions. I recently put a new transmission in too.

IT IS A VERY FAST CAR!!

I have a 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24...God Bless Her...She's been a great car... Months ago I had a problem when all of a sudden she wouldn't start...well..we thought she was out of gas... fuel pump gone... fuel filter bad... was already to have her towed... but guess what... it was none other than vapor lock... put some octane booster and high grade gas..of course first released the pressure that had built up inside the gas tank by releasing the gas cap... it solved the problem... mine has 126,000 miles on it and it runs like a new car... Thank you Chevrolet..

I have a 1988 chevy cavalier z24 I have had it since 99. The car to me is great no major problems yet (Knock on wood). My z is a 5 speed and just hit 99,000. I did a few boby mods and engine mods. It runs 100% I get a lot of looks out of it unfortunately from the copers also. But hey they are cheap valued cars, but the performance and quality is excellent. My girlfirend loves the car she just learned to drive standard. not on my car of course. I will have my z for years to come. I take good care of it service it regulary and take very good care of it.
