My girl has a Cavalier, and they are nice cars and I love it. You are not beating a V8, no matter what you do! Same goes for those piece of crap Hondas and Acuras. American all day.

Send me the link to Youtube there buddy so I can see this feat of impossibility.

The only way a Cav can beat any Camaro or Mustang is if it is a Z24. That's the only way, and it has to be a standard transmission. Without a standard transmission, you will lose, and the Z22 ecotech engine is a better built engine, but the only way you would possibly keep up with either car is to put the turbo kit in it. And unless you have 2500 for a turbo for a Cav, then you are SOL.

I personally have a Z24, and I have beaten Mustangs and Camaros. It also depends on the driver; if they are willing to red line their engines, then a Camaro/Mustang will beat a Cav; not by much though.

And a Talon isn't as fast as people think they are. So it is possible for a Cav to beat a Talon of any sort, if they know how to drive, have the right engine, and if it is a standard.

I'm in a group of people with lil tinker toy cars; they all have Talons and Honda's etc.. I beat most of them except a Prelude, a CRX, 1 Talon, a 3000GT twin turbo, and a 2001 Eclipse with a 3000GT twin turbo engine with nitro, which gives it around 1300 hp with it all specced out with nitro.

Redlining your car is not the fastest way to go. The Mustang 5.0 has a peak torque of 300 lb. ft. and it occurs at 3,200 rpm's on the Mustang. Torque wins 0-60 races, not hp, so you have to maximize it in order to win races. Redlining the car only wastes time, because when you shift at 4,500 rpm's in a 5.0 Mustang, you drop the clutch in the next gear and the engine turns... you guessed it right at the peak 3,200 rpm's. You don't have to redline a Mustang to get the most out of it... In fact you shouldn't, unless you want to lose that is. If I raced you, I'd be half way through second while you were still burning up your engine in first... then bye bye to you!

Now back to the 150hp Z24 beating the Mustang... Even with a turbo and another 50 HP, you wouldn't have a chance. The 0-60 times were at least 2 seconds slower or more for the Z, so how in the heck are you beating the Mustang? You gotta seriously have a lame driver to pull that one off!

The only Mustang the Z24 could beat is the 4 cylinder or V6 Mustang's. And that is NOT saying much.

I love these Z24 guys claiming to beat cars with 75 more HP and more than twice the torque! Please! Let me tell you something... driver ability has way more to do with your race results than the actual car. I once kept pace with a Porsche 911. I was right behind him at every turn and kept up with him. It is a funny story. He cut me off on the highway, and I was a young fool and got mad so I chased him. He was over revving it and really trying to lose me, but I kept right up with him. What was I driving? An '89 TOYOTA TERCEL! I had 80 or so HP to his 250. Did I come on here and say my Tercel is as fast as a Porsche? NO!

Look at the factual numbers on your Z24 vs. a 5.0 Mustang and you will see that there is NO WAY a Z can even come close to a Mustang in performance. I actually had a '90 Z24 5-speed which was faster than the next generation 4 cylinder cars and I couldn't beat any 5.0's with it... even speed shifting it through all the gears.

Am I saying you never have beaten a Mustang? No. But just because you have, does not mean your car is faster than a Mustang.

A 1996 Cavalier Z24 5 speed has a 0-60 time of 7.9 and quarter mile time of 15.9.

- 1973 Ford Mustang 351ci 0-60 8.9 1/4 mile 16.3

- 1984 Ford Mustang 5.0 0-60 7.9 1/4 mile 15.8

- 1975 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 0-60 7.8 1/4 mile 16.1

- 1977 Pontiac Firebird Formula 0-60 12.0 1/4 mile 17.9

- 1983 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 0-60 9.2 1/4 mile 17.0

- 1984 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am HO 0-60 7.9 1/4 mile 16.1

- 1975 Chevrolet Corvette 350 0-60 9.6 1/4 mile 16.4

It's easily to see that a stock Z24 can keep up or even beat a stock V8 powered F-body or Mustang. People tend to forget about the gas crisis, smog era V8 pony cars. A coworker of mine has a mid 80s Mustang 5.0 automatic convertible. It also has very tall gears. 2.73 I think. I've caught him at a red light on the way home a few times, and I always beat him with my beater Z24. And my car has 341K miles! It's peppy for a 4 banger, but not fast. And I would never put money into this car trying to make it fast. Just doesn't make sense.
