1994 Chevrolet S-10 LS 4.3 Vortec from North America

Summary:

Like the energizer bunny

Faults:

Well, having put 175,000 miles on the truck most minor things have been replaced. The only "surprises?" were the transmission needed replaced at about 60,000 miles, no problems since.

One gripe is that the drivers seat has worn down past the foam, this appears to be a problem with most s-10 trucks. I even went to junk yards to buy a new drivers seat and all the s-10's there had the same problems.

I have replaced.

Water pump, head gasket set (very recently), fuel pump (it's in the gas tank ugh.), and expected wear parts.

General Comments:

This truck has been awesome. I have always changed my oil every 3000 miles and with a recent head gasket set replacement (minor anti-freeze leak)it showed (engine was super clean). The truck has been easy to work on when I needed to. I have put 175,000 miles on this truck and it still keeps going, I would trust it to go almost anywhere.

1994 Chevrolet S-10 ZR2 4.3 litre vin w from North America

Faults:

I recently installed a new motor and replaced pretty much everything on it.

I gave it a tune up, but it still wants to fall on its face when I go to pass on the interstate.

Also, when I give it some gas to pass when the air is on, it will stop blowing air from the vents until I let off the gas.

I have replaced the oxygen sensor and took it to the dealership, but it won't do it when they have it.

I run 93 octane in it and have had the injectors cleaned. Took the intake off and it is not leaking from the Vortec design fuel lines.

Doe anyone have any suggestions? Please let me know, I am tired of dumping money into it. someone said the egr valve, but I don't know?

1994 Chevrolet S-10 LS 4.3L V6 Vortech from North America

Summary:

This truck is fast, reliable, safe and helpful

Faults:

My water pump went as soon as I bought the truck.

My brake pads, brake lines, rotors, and shocks soon needed replacing.

My CV joint recently broke.

My oil filter was put on so tight I had to snap it off (not a good idea).

General Comments:

The truck is eleven years old and runs awesome, and looks even better. In fact it looks better then my friends 2000.

The truck is very easy to maintain as well as cheap to repair.

It has an outrageous amount of horse power, as well as low end torque.

Very quick to jump when accelerating, and stops extremely well.

Its overall appearance is just an eye catcher.

But its very bad on gas, very bad.

1994 Chevrolet S-10 Extended Cab 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

It could be worst

Faults:

The clutch has gone out two times at 165,000 miles and 198,000 miles.

The seats broke and wouldn't move anymore.

Pull-out seats in the extended cab part get stuck when you try to pull them out.

General Comments:

It is very easy to change gears in.

It will get you very far distances with no trouble.

In the summer time the seats will make your back get really sweaty.

Extended cab part was obviously designed for small children.

1994 Chevrolet S-10 LS,Extended Cab, 4X4 4.3 Vortex, V6 from North America

Summary:

Like a rock!

Faults:

I added two cans of R-134, air conditioner now blows ice cold, dealer wanted hundreds of $ to fix, Chevy's always leak freon. Interior door panels needed a few screws to reattach. Passenger power window won't work. Power mirror's no longer work. Same drivers seat edge wear that others report. Spark plugs kinda tough to get to. Cab corner's starting to show small amount of rust. Idles a little rough on cold starts. Generally the same issue's others in this forum report.

General Comments:

Paid $975 dollars for this truck at a Chevy dealer (it had 200,000 miles). Great deal! Good looking, solid truck, that runs out very nice. Electronic 4 wheel drive is flawless. Love the remote oil filter, it makes "shade tree" oil changes a breeze! Rides the way it should, like a truck! I have had many Chevy's, one fact is always true, you take care of them, they take care of you. But it does pay to be handy under the hood.

Update to this (MY) Truck... Well it's February 07', and the truck now has 225,000 miles, I keep adding r134 as needed, replaced the pitted windshield ($180 installed) replaced battery (up-sized $55), replaced alternator ($80), replaced water pump ($30), Should have replaced the sloppy timing chain while I had it apart (it was very hot out!), worst problem was the injector system! a design nightmare!!! (a problem GM fixed for the 98' and newer models), easy to do for a "shade tree mechanic" but YOU have to replace the whole system, cheap fixes won't work here!! (I TRIED! had to be towed home twice $120 total) parts include the intake gasket, injector kit, and hose kit (over $600 retail!) dealer only items! (dealer wanted $1,300 parts & labor to fix!), a little white lie will get the whole lot at wholesale ($350)...the truck looks/runs good and gets many comments and about 16-17 mpg, okay for it's heavy duty drive train... OK for the price I paid!, but as I said, it helps to be able to work with the tools, otherwise these older S10's can cost you more than their worth!

They did make the new style in 1994, I have a 94 ZR2 Model Single Cab. This, I think, was the first year with the 4.3 Vortec. Any Comments on what to do about this engine, it does and always has idled a little rough watching the tachometer. Everyone has told me its has to do with the injection. Open for advice, it has pretty low miles, only 110,000 miles.
