Did you buy the car brand new or used. If you bought it brand new then the previous owner may not have performed the necessary maintenance to keep the truck running without "problem after problem". It would be helpful to know what problems occured so the seriousness of the issue can be determined (i.e. transmission fell out of engine vs. radio speaker went out)

2000 Chevrolet Silverado Base 4.3L Gas from North America

Summary:

Buy it to look at it not to work it

Faults:

Steering Gear replaced.

Shipped from factory with no grease in universal joints.

SRS airbag sensor malfunction.

Rear Brakes self destructed at 30 000Km.

Rough idle.

Emergency brake assembly self destructed and took rear axle housing with it.

Heater controls seized.

DRL bulbs constantly need replacement.

Factory installed box liner falling out.

Temperature sensor failed at 2 300 Km.

General Comments:

Overall I am not as happy with this truck as I could be. It just isn't a solid truck. The previous truck I had had well over 270 000Km of hard service with very little repairs required.

The Chev has just not lived up to the hype. At the end of the warranty period it will be disposed of.

GM really dropped the ball on this truck the sheet metal is weak and dents easily. The paint is soft and scratches very easily. Cabin glass is soft and doesn't take even the smallest stone hit without chipping or cracking.

ABS brakes are overly sensitive and will engage even when going over the smallest of road imperfections. Factory installed Goodyear tires wore quickly and were expensive to replace.

The dealership where the vehicle has any warranty work done has been quite good and has had loaners available to me when my truck has required overnight stays. Parts have always been available quickly and service personnel have been polite and professional.

The ride and comfort are excellent as well as the fuel economy for a full size truck however it's just not enough to sway me to buy another one when you add up the issues.

If you want a work truck you should have bought one. You don't buy a 4.3 liter base model and expect it to haul and tow, it basically is transportation and very light duty work. Proud owner of G.M. Products.

Ex-owner of a 4.3 excellent engine for what it is, but its only a V-6. I used mine as much as anybody pulling my 19' bass-boat, and power was never much of a problem, however stopping my boat and S-10 (Z-r2) together was a little tricky. Needless to say very pleased with my Chevy, so much I traded it in for a full-size!

Having been responsible for repairs at a dealership for 18 plus years, the other comments explain well-you must buy the truck that applies to your conditions. *ANYTHING* you buy, when misused and abused will fail. As they say you get what you pay for!

I feel your pain, brother. I traded mine on a 97 F-150. I haul tractors, cars, boats and campers with my F-150. Oh, yeah, it's a 4.2l 6 cylinder and none of the fore mentioned problems exist. Despite what all the band-wagoners say, buy an F-150 and your won't have these problems. And as ol' what's his name said, you will get what you paid for. Six cylinders, over 160,000 miles, hauling anything I wish, you bought the wrong truck. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Hey man you don't pull things not rated for your truck! your dumb. if your gonna pull a camper or anything buy the right vehicle that can handle it, which would not include any FORD TRUCKS! my rule of thumb is if you are planning on towin anything over 100 pounds you best buy a chevy buddy!

I have a 2003 base Silverado with a 4.3. Tow a pop-up tent trailer. My overall experience has been very poor with this truck. Have had numerous warranty work done: clunky steering; water blown through passenger side water sealing; catalytic converter replaced under warranty; tail gate doesn't always close first time; noisy underpowered engine. Heat selector knob has broken off twice (once under warranty). Not happy.
