2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD LS Vortec 8.1 from North America

Summary:

Excellent and reliable!

Faults:

I have had several Silverado Heavy Duty Trucks. However, I keep experiencing engine stall with the 2 that I have had. When I say that, I mean that once I reach highway speeds (and even slower speeds) the engine just dies. Other than th.

General Comments:

The truck has excellent pulling and towing power. The newer Heavy Duty model rides like a Cadillac. It is wonderful for long travels and after those long days at work. I would not own anything else.

2001 Chevrolet Silverado LS 1500 4.8 V8 gasoline from North America

Summary:

This is a great truck.

Faults:

The gas gauge repeatedly flicks from full to empty, causing the "low fuel" light to flicker on and off.

The front shocks have needed to be replaced.

The temperature control dial stopped working, staying at one temperature no matter where it gets twisted.

My exhaust developed a pinhole leak (not caused by rusting).

General Comments:

This truck accelerates faster than my old sports car.

The interior is very quiet.

The cabin controls are very easy to manipulate and well marked.

The seats are pretty comfortable for trips up to two hours.

The blind spots are pretty large, so I need to be extra careful changing lanes.

2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500LS 4.3 from North America

Summary:

Best truck I ever owned

Faults:

The Second Day I owned the truck, one of the license plate lights fell off, and the dealership didn't get the part in for about a month. This was very aggravating, but it was a very minor problem.

GoodYear tires lasted about 13,000 miles.

During acceleration from stopped, there is a slight vibration that occurs only between 15-20 mph then goes away. I haven't had the problem diagnosed yet. It started about 10,000 miles ago, and has gotten progressively worse.

General Comments:

It doesn't quite have the super-cushioned suspension, I enjoyed when it was new, since I added a 7 inch Fab-tech lift kit, and 35" Mickey Thompson tires. However, it still has a comfortable ride, and looks great!

2001 Chevrolet Silverado LS 5.3L from North America

Summary:

A great truck that maintains well with regular maintenance

Faults:

So far I hadn't had any major problems with the vehicle. This is good since my initial warranty has expired and I've yet to purchase another extended on.

However, I did have a check 4WD notification due to a faulty switch. Once the switch was replaced, I've never had any other check 4WD notices.

I've also had leaking front differentials. It happened prior to my warranty expiring, so that was easily fixed.

General Comments:

I've been quite alert and up to date on preventative maintenance. I do all of my own basic mechanical maintenance.

Lately I've replaced my tranny fluid even though it wasn't due to a change out for another 10K miles. I change my engine oil and filter every 3K-5K miles, or when notified to do so by the computer, whichever comes first. I've added fluids to my differentials, and replaced my air-filter twice. My next preventative maintenance is changing out a fuel filter.

When it comes to engine oil, I use nothing, but synthetic oil. I also use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner every four gas tank fill-ups.

Vehicle runs great, and with my copy of Chilton's, I intend to keep it that way.

My 2001 Silverado 1500 2wd has a slight vibration when taking off between 15- 20 mph then it stops. Could this be low differential oil?

2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD V.8 4WD from North America

Summary:

Like it, love it, keeping it for awhile

Faults:

Sounds like a diesel when first starting up in the am, unable to replicate for dealer since I have to drive it in the am to get there.

The daytime driving light bulbs have burnt out- costs $8.00 per light to replace, will do eventually.

Sensor for headlight screwy, always on- need to fix dash cover.

General Comments:

We needed a good reliable truck to pull a travel trailer, and I think we got it-of course the gas mileage is terrible when you drive you are towing.

Got the extended cab for family reasons-the crew cab would have made it to long for me to drive and park- feel like I take up the whole road as it is.

Back seats are so-so not the most comfortable, but had worse in trucks- the teenager can sleep back there so that helps.

Only downfall is hubby wants to get the truck lifted and equalized- and he is looking at the Banks Power System for more power.

Thinking next truck to be a diesel -yrs and yrs down the line-- this is our 2nd Chevy truck and the only type his dad has- its the only one he looked into really.
