1990 Citroen AX GT 1.4 petrol from Norway

Summary:

One of a kind. Recommended

Faults:

The bulb for the heater-control panel went, and one of the mounts for the drivers-seat is loose. Some rust here and there..

Not had it for so long though..

General Comments:

I love this car; there is something distinctive about it. Like the red dash board light, the red stripes around the dash and especially the red stripes in the carpet. I also bought it a CD player with a red display.

I had also never thought a 1.4 could be so quick, though it is perhaps not so quick compared to Japanese cars/rice boilers..? Easy to tune though. Whatever, it's quick enough.

Feels sturdy, but that's perhaps the only positive thing to say about that.. Lies good on the road with 165 65 14 tires.

Love this car. It's like a boring, soul-less Opel/Toyota whatever driving machine, just not boring and silly - it's a Citroen. I love this car.

1990 Citroen AX GT 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap, better than a VTR etc. Fast, reliable

Faults:

Only one problem, but nothing that any other car wouldn't have.

One wheel bearing, fixed by me at cost of £38, but come on, the beast had done over 100000.

General Comments:

SO quick. Amazing on fuel. Put a modded engine in it; cammed, skimmed, ported, valves, vernier pulley. Full exhaust, including manifold. And put an MG Maestro twin carb on it, putting it up to 137bhp.

The thing was dangerous, but so much fun to drive. A white van man drove into me at what he said was 30 (more like 45-50) and wrote the thing off, but I was totally fine, and it was sold and repaired, and is now living in Bridgeport as far as I'm aware. SO WATCH OUT!!

Nothing made me happier than watching VTRs, GTE Novas and bigger cars (and even bigger cars when I put the tuned engine in) vanish in the rear view as they tried to overtake. Great looking car.

Now own a modded Focus. Faster, but not as much fun!

1990 Citroen AX 1.1i 1.1 petrol injection from Serbia

Summary:

Craziest li'l car ever

Faults:

Radiator leaks.

Clutch plate is bent for last 2000 km.

Horn died at 175000 km.

There is a decent rusted hole on the doorstep.

Handbrake cable snapped recently.

Regulator for back-light in the instrument table now lost contact.

CV joints need to be replaced.

Gear lever ball is worn out.

ECU reporting non-existent problem from time to time.

Overall nothing serious.

General Comments:

It looks horrible and I can't fit in it being 187cm tall. Pedals are placed under some plastic shelf and feet might jam in between sometimes. Seats are a bit too soft and you can get pains in lumbal area if you sit long enough. Stock size tyres are a laugh, as well as a 3-screw wheel mounting. Spare wheel is under the car so if it sits there for longer time the screw holding it gets jammed and quite hard to release.

But, opposed to the appearance, it is incredibly swift and fast. It's weight has been reduced to the edge, engine is pure gold, responsive and hates gasoline. This one eats 4l of fuel per 100km of ride. It accelerates surprisingly well. Handles great in corners, slides off predictably, shocks are maybe a bit too soft, but it doesn't affect stability significantly. And, it doesn't mind being mistreated (within reasonable range). The hood is steep so you look at the road right in front of you and ride feels ten time as fast. Bottle pockets on the doors are an interesting detail. Don't attempt sex in it.

General Comments:

The ax gt is a great car to drive and is very fast, but that is when it is running.

The body work on mine is superb the car handles great since lowering although speed bumps are a big hazard.

Will beat most cars fairly easy to 60 anyways.
