2002 Dodge Caravan SE 3.3 V6 from North America

Summary:

Comfortable, nice features, overall best out there

Faults:

No problem to speak of (hopefully none in the future either).

May need a rack.

Trans occasionally searches for gear, probably could use a flush and new filter.

Start up when cold or siting a while, is a bit on the noisy side. "Ticks" at first (kind of sounds like "lifter tick"), but only for the first couple of seconds, then goes away. Not sure if this is normal for the new ones.

General Comments:

Very comfortable, roomy, lots of cargo room.

Quad seats are nice on long trip, reclining split rear bench also nice.

Good power from the 3.3 V6, lots of nice features.

Great looking van.

Smooth ride, handles nice, easy to drive.

My other one has over 250kms (1997, 3.0 V6) and still runs great, so hopefully this one will hold up the same way. I haven't seen any newer body style models with over 200 kms yet, but I see a lot of cab companies using them as opposed to other vans, so I figure they hold up well, much like the older ones.

Great overall, best van on the market.

2002 Dodge Caravan from North America

Summary:

Stay clear!!

Faults:

This van was SCARY! Power steering hoses went 3 times before they admitted to a recall. The price to fix was nothing. Time away from work lots..etc.. Tires seemed to wear down in front of my eyes. (3 sets in 70.000 miles. The water pump went and the rad as well.) It needed tranny work and the rack was leaking when I almost gave it away to a dealer. Front end always clunking and this was one car I tried to baby along!Good Luck with this one!

We have a 2002 Grand Caravan. Overall we have been pretty happy with this car, so I can’t agree with the title of this review. We also had the P/S hoses replaced twice under recall, but never had a failure. We have not had any problems with tire wear. Currently on second set of tires at 79,000 miles and they are still in good shape. No cooling system problems, but we do have a small transmission leak. It just seeps a little bit in cold temperatures – not worth fixing. The front end clunking is a common problem and a good mechanic who knows this vehicle will replace the swaybar bushings for less than $150.

General Comments:

Don, t mind the drive when the vehicle is functioning properly, too many annoying electrical problems, hard on brake rotors on my third set now, parts don't seem to last 55,000km on a rack & pinon seems very low to me. When this ones gone there will never be another Chrysler owned by me.
