My 2002 Caravan is an abomination. Engine O.K. Transmission ate a pump at 28,000 miles. Repeated episodes of ABS problems and of front calipers locking up.

I have never had a more troublesome car (fortunately).

998k?

998,000 kilometers (or miles) is pretty good where I come from.

If I had an engine that ran 5 million miles or kilometers I would not feel unfortunate to have to put money back it to it. Perhaps the original owner should clarify his original time intervals.

Keep in mind that he probably means km when the reviewer says "k." In Canada, we abbreviate in our talking and refer to kilometers as "k's." I highly doubt this reviewer was upset about problems experienced in his vehicle after several million kilometers of driving.

2002 Dodge Caravan 2003 Grand ES 3.8 V6 from North America

Summary:

Pricey, but worth it

Faults:

Nothing so far, it purrs like a kitten.

General Comments:

This van is very luxurious and comfortable.

The automatic sliding doors and rear hatch make my job as taxi mom a breeze.

Very good suspension and sport handling for a large van; much better than our 1997 Dodge Caravan standard.

This van has the works; all leather interior, a great sound system, DVD entertainment, all power locks, doors, and windows, sunroof, three way digital climate controls.

We love it and would highly recommend this make and model for the busy family, especially for moms or dads who spend a large part of the day in the car.

When you buy a vehicle you should wait at least 1 year before putting a review on the website.

Sure your caravan works great at 400 miles, but that's not convincing enough for everyone to say that caravans are good.

At least 2 out of ten Caravans will work good for a long time. These vans have a long history of headache problems so if I were you, I would research this vehicle before buying it!! Take it in and trade it for a Chevrolet Venture or an Oldsmobile Silhouette. These are VERY reliable Minivans. Trust me.

2002 Dodge Caravan ES 3.8 liter from North America

Summary:

It's a disappointment

Faults:

I pushed on the gas pedal while driving and the van WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. It was as if the van kicked itself into neutral. When this was happening, no gear was indicated on the panel. (A lit box appears around a letter indicating which gear you are in, i.e., P, R, N, D) The only way I can explain it is that the engine was on, but it was not in any gear... So, I know with absolute certainty I could not have accidentally knocked the gear shift into neutral. Anyway, it takes deliberate action to switch gears. The van kicked itself back into drive after a few seconds. This also happened when my husband drove the car, so I know it's not just me! This malfunction happened twice.

Airbag light came on, rang, then went off. This happened after all the panel lights/indicators had already come and gone. This oddity occurred once.

There is a knock when I move the steering wheel side-to-side. Is this normal?

Van felt as if it was going to idle out when backing out of my garage. It didn't die, but it felt like it would. This happened once.

General Comments:

We took the van in to the dealership to get checked out. Of course, they could not duplicate any of the above problems.

The inability to accelerate a van could be fatal, need I explain why? I see liability issues here, people. I'm not one to sue the pants off anyone, but I'll sure fight for every dime I can get to cover any and all medical expenses caused by this fault, which we reported to and got checked out by the dealer!

Regarding the airbag light/chime: the dealership has notes on the service invoice that say "found fault for buss in dash, talked to star, checked wiring to dash, OK, unable to duplicate". What in the world does this mean???

At first, I was so excited to buy, own and drive a brand new van. It was a real treat. Now, I'm not so sure...I'm constantly worrying, "When is my car going to stop dead in the middle of the rushing freeway traffic???"

I feel this van will be the death of me. About 6 months ago I purchased a used 2002 Dodge Caravan. Being the mother of 5 and a lifelong GM owner I was very excited about my purchase. My problems began on day 2, I was approaching a red light in dry conditions and my brake began jerking and the vehicle took longer than usual to come to a stop. When I the light turned green my vehicle felt as if it was stuck in neutral and after about 5 seconds of applying gas it jerked into drive. I was so afraid and disappointed. I am still under factory warranty with this vehicle and I've been back for this problem (and also the anti lock brake light engaged) about 10 times, each time I'm led to believe that it's only a minor sensor or something. Well after having it in the shop twice this week and paying $160.00 for brake pads, I was sure this problem was fixed. My kids and I were riding and when I applied the brakes there was knocking, grinding and the brakes would not come to a complete stop, I had to turn the corner to slow down and eventually it stopped. Being a block away from my home I slowly drove it into the drive way and with my young kids and I petrified, I parked it there until I can get it back to the dealer. I've never been so afraid of a vehicle before.

The New model of The Grand Caravan Is certainly A Home run! This car loves to climb hills We have driven the car to lake Tahoe twice already and the 3.8 Liter 215 horsepower V6 Leaves all the cars behind us in the dust. (We even passed a Corvette going up Kingsbury grade!) The seats are very comfortable. and the price is wonderful you can get a fully loaded EX For 26,320 With leather, dual power sliding doors, and the new power liftgate. That price beats everyone! and the Safety rating is much higher than the previous model This van is a great value car!
