1998 Dodge Durango SLT 318 from North America

Summary:

Love my Durango

Faults:

Had the battery replaced (under warranty) 2 times before 30,000 miles, not Chrysler fault, it was the battery manufacturers I was told, local dealer replaced both times no complaint.

Just replaced the ball joints. At 50,000 miles I think that is not much to have go wrong.

Not happy with the rusting window edges, but have checked out the replacements, and not that bad, I will replace them.

As for the gas mileage, I knew when I got it what it was, and we took it to Disney, and the comfort and the dependability far out weighted the mileage, and by the way the mileage was not that bad.

General Comments:

I waited and shopped many places for my truck, I do not regret getting it at all. My sons are bugging me to sell it to them, and I want to keep it.

I agree with another persons posting, the key is to maintain your vehicle, like, rotate tires, balance, align, and regular oil changes. Works for us.

I bought my 98 Durango SLT July 12th 2005. It had 103k miles on it. One the road, using high test gas, I get an average of 17 miles per gal. I love the way it rides. I just had the transmission services because I wasn't sure when it was done last. The day I bought it, I did service it, I use a good oil filter and Castoil 20W50 oil. I do the oil change no later than every 3000 miles, add injector cleaner and lube all the joints. I'm from the time before computers and I think it has more electronics than should be on it, but, I'm happy with mine so far. RT.

1998 Dodge Durango SLT 5.2 from North America

Summary:

My first SUV and it serves our family well

Faults:

The o-2 sensor went out at 81000 miles.

The transmission had a bad gasket on it leaking a quart of fluid a week.

Both of these items were repaired by the dealer under warranty during the first 30 days.

The rear passenger power window motor has now went out this week.

I did purchase an extended warranty for 3 years or 36,000 miles with a zero deductible for $1,200 which will cover the window motor repair.

General Comments:

Overall the SUV rides well and has been trouble free for a used vehicle.

The gas mileage is 13 city and 19 on the highway.

I love being able to fold the seats down to haul cargo compared to my Town & Country's complete removal to haul things.

1998 Dodge Durango SLT from North America

Summary:

The vehicle has been a good SUV for us

Faults:

We bought our vehicle used and have no problems with it. We have taken it on several out of state trips with no problems and great gas mileage. The problem that I have is my husband was in a collision which damaged both front fenders, hood, front grill, front bumper, radiator & fan. This was a total of about $6000. damage. My 11 year old grandson was with him when this happened and both had seat belts on. The airbags never did deploy. I called 2 dealerships and asked if they knew of a reason why. The first told me to bring this vehicle that can not be driven to them and they would put the computer on it to find out why. I work at a auto repair shop and have the computer. The 2nd dealership said there is no speed of impact that he could tell me that would make the airbags deploy. If this is true then why have them? If my grandson had not had his seatbelt on he would have gone through the windshield because of no airbag.

1998 Dodge Durango SLT Plus 5.9 from North America

Summary:

Great SUV

Faults:

Air bag light has come on at 80,000.

Other than that, nothing other than regular maintenance items.

General Comments:

My Durango has been a very good vehicle. Gas mileage sucks by comparison to a smaller vehicle, but I still get better than the sticker says. I am able to pull a 21 ft boat up a 20 mile long 6% grade with passengers and the A/C on and maintain 65+ mph.
