2001 Dodge Intrepid SE 2.7 from North America

Summary:

Pretty Decent Car!

Faults:

I have had the most weird problems with my car. The fan went out I replaced that at my house no problem. Then my driver side rear window cannot be controlled by the driver door master controls unless I first roll down the window from the rear control then roll the window back up. Then the master controls will work again. It will happen when the car is shut off and then back on. Or it will happen when it pleases. Windows are not hooked up to the computer like wipers, and horn, and trunk release, and courtesy lights, and all other lights on the car. So I do not know what the deal is. Then I get to the dealership and they do not want to honor the extended warranty I have on the car. Anyone have any fixes for the window. Maybe a relay or a module of some sort. Thanks! General Comments:

Very nice car on rims with beat in it.

May buy another one, but a tip to all never buy a car that is in its first year. Example 1998 dodge first year of the new design. Never buy it!

2001 Dodge Intrepid R/T 3.5 HO V6 from North America

Summary:

Great performance for the money, very reliable

Faults:

Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this car. My wife drives it every day with out any complaints. It would seem that many of the people who have experienced problems with these cars are simply experiencing poor service from their repair shop or dealer. All of the non-warrantied work is done by myself on my vehicles and since I go out of the way to do things right when I fix them no further problems occur. Unknowing people constantly throw around the word "lemon" at a vehicle that has been improperly maintained. That is the only explanation I can see for the ailments that plage other people's Intrepids. I have two friends of mine who own Intrepids, my company uses one as a courtesy car, my mother in-law has one and a friend of my wife also has one and none of these cars have ever experienced problems outside regular maintenance. It's funny because the car we had before the Intrepid was a 1990 Taurus, another car people like to assess as a lemon prone vehicle. We had that car for 12 years and 267000 km and never had to replace anything more expensive than an alternator and some leaky frost plugs that's it. It always seems that the most problematic vehicles fall into the hands of people who know nothing about them, coincidence, I think not.

General Comments:

This is a great car, I heard a lot of bad things about Intrepids too, but still bought this one because it was a good deal with excellent financing with an extended warranty. So far haven't had to use it. The car is very quick, a terrific highway cruiser and handles very tight. The R/T suspension does wonders for this car. In my opinion this car had everything and more than my neighbors BMW 3-series and can outrun it too for $15000 less and its much cheaper to get parts for.

Most of the negative reviews, including mine, were about the 2.7l engine which is not in the R/T model or they addressed unpreventable items. I would like for this person to let me know how I could have prevented two windows malfunctioning, two engine fans breaking, A/C coolant leaking, transmission sensor failing, dash lights going out twice, rack & pinion replacement and premature engine failure at 56,000 miles. All maintenance was done as per the Owner's manual and I am a very conservative driver.

Summary:

Gets me where I am going

General Comments:

A lower first gear would make this a lot faster.

Why no ABS on the base model?

Not terribly quick, but always gets me where I am going with out a drama.
