1994 Ford Aspire 4-door from North America

Summary:

A cute reliable economy car

Faults:

The only thing which has gone wrong with this car is that the front driver-side lock stuck. A good locksmith solved the problem for five dollars.

General Comments:

It was a good car to purchase for my teenage daughter. I could get airbags and relative safety -- though it is a tiny car -- for a reasonable price.

I would have preferred a Honda or Toyota initially, but I found that the resale prices were absolutely exorbitant for the condition.

My mechanic maintains the Aspire's Kia engine is like new and should go another 100,000 miles.

1994 Ford Aspire 1.3l from North America

Summary:

The little purple car that could!

Faults:

My battery actually had the nerve to die after I drove the car for 50 some odd thousand miles without changing it.

One of my spark plugs went bad after driving the car for 3 years without changing them.

I blame nothing on my car.

General Comments:

Nothing has gone wrong with my car! It is economic, fun to drive, purple in color, cuter than your car, and it has taken me safely and swiftly from Los Angeles to San Francisco and beyond, from Los Angeles to Phoenix several times, Los Angeles to the Grand Canyon and back, not to mention work and school every day. I can't imagine owning a happier vehicle!!!

1994 Ford Aspire from North America

Summary:

Highly reliable, decent driving money saving machine

Faults:

The rubber drive axle boots tore, ended up replacing the axles along with the boots.

Needed a new rotor cap and plug wires at 50K miles.

The paint on the hub-caps is worn, showing the plastic underneath. I plan on finding a similar color spray paint and just re-painting them myself since new ones are very expensive.

Besides that, it has been very reliable so far.

General Comments:

It is kind of a dog, especially when in need of a tune up. But it is roomy enough for me (6'1", 225 lbs.) and cruises nicely at 70 MPH on the freeway.

We have had it paid off for several years and it is not too much of an embarrassment to drive.

The only reason we might sell it in a year or so is so that we can move up to a bigger and safer station wagon or sedan.

1994 Ford Aspire 1.3 from North America

Summary:

Reliable little work horse..

Faults:

Replaced the hubcaps.

General Comments:

When I bought this car I felt as if I was stepping into a trap, the price was 1000.00 and the car itself as far as looks was in great shape, everything looked great and the inside was the same, I wondered why on earth it was so cheap?

I drove the car and besides it being out of line I didn't see any problems. I bought the car with a bad gut feeling thinking within the month it would need major work... So I drove it and drove it and drove it nothing broke or went wrong. A year passed and nothing so I think I got a great deal, nothing has happened and it has cranked everytime I have turned the key. I love the little Pastel Colored car..

1994 Ford Aspire 4dh 1.3 from North America

Summary:

A fairly dependable commuter car

Faults:

Both CV boots split, but had them replaced before CV damage.

Musty smell from the vents during summer with AC and control set to full recycle - setting recycle to the middle avoids this.

Road noise at highway speeds from the rear of the car - changed tires, but did not resolve.

Loud roar coming from the front, sounds like failing bearing, but the mechanic cannot isolate and confirm the problem.

Difficulty starting after hard rain, but runs fine after the next dry day - ignition parts replaced, not resolved.

Driver side visor drops for no reason, removed it - must be problem since ALL junk yard Aspires are missing the driver side visor.

General Comments:

It's green so you have to brush off the Easter Egg jokes.

Nice to see that you save money on gas, until you notice it only holds 6-7 gallons.

Fairly dependable. Impressive pickup from standing start for this class of car.

Rear door child safety locks are nice touch!

Poor acceleration (or even maintaining speed) up hills with AC on.

Seats are stiff and become unbearable on long trips (several hours driving).

With the back seat folded forward and passenger seat all the way back, I was able to carry two 4x4 8 foot posts with the hatch closed! And had plenty of room to carry other home improvement items. Amazingly roomy with back seat folded down.
