My F150 just blew a head gasket at 60,000 miles.
I have had other Ford vehicles and my entire family is a Ford-loyal family.
I don't know if this is just bad luck with this vehicle, or if this is truly rare or a defect. The mechanic at the Dealer told us he had never seen a blown head gasket on an F150, just on the Lightnings.
I previously owned a 4-cylinder Ranger for 6 years with 127,000 miles and had absolutely no problems with it. That is the reason I rebought with Ford and was told by the dealer that "if your Ranger lasted 6 years with that kind of mileage and a 4-cylinder engine, this V8 will last you 10 years!" Yeah, right!
The dealer called to let us know that the repairs are going to cost us $2,500. By the way, I didn't purchase the extended warranty originally because it pushed my payment over $400. I wanted to be loyal to Ford and opted not to purchase the warranty because of cost and to still drive a Ford. I sure gambled and lost!
Unfortunately, "American" cars have become so expensive and with this problem my confidence is shaken in rebuying from any of the "Big 3".
American cars are no more expensive, and in many cases, far less expensive than the imports. Ford trucks and vehicles alike are far more value for the dollar than most of the imports. I challenge the author to study the industry publications, such as CAR & DRIVER, and use comparative shopping techniques. Nothing is free, no even freedom.

Initially American cars are cheaper, but in the long run, they become more expensive to own. Japanese vehicles are only a few grand more expensive. But an average American may spend $10,000 extra for repairs. Ford and Dodge vehicles are somewhat reasonable, but General Motors vehicles are overpriced.
And I guess you don't check Kelly Blue Book. Ford's resale are probably the lowest of the big3. This is due mainly because of the quality of Ford's vehicles.

I gotta question your smarts. Now that I question your smarts, I wonder at what sort of maintainance you did. Then I realize that you're just like 70% of the car owners, ignorant and whiny when something goes wrong.
I just noticed: Why are you still going to a dealer for repairs???!!!???
