1994 Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.3 mi from Bulgaria

Summary:

A perfect car for people with low budget!

Faults:

Some leaks from the radiator. I bought an addition for the anti-freeze for 2.5 EUR and they disappeared.

Few tiny repairs some of which I managed to perform alone.

General Comments:

Pros:

Great value for money. An excellent low-budget car.

Very spacey for its class. The VW Polo, Peugeot 106, Citroen AX are less spacey and comfortable.

Very reliable. I have the feeling that this car will never leave me.

Light-weight, short and high above the ground - very suitable for poorly maintained roads.

Cons:

Gears do not switch very smoothly.

Very noisy engine, especially when it is cold.

Not as fuel efficient as I expected it to be.

1994 Ford Fiesta DL 1.8 diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Budget

Faults:

Car is very rusty.

Rear view mirror fell off.

New front suspension parts required for MOT. This was cheap and simple to repair.

General Comments:

The car is complete rubbish to drive.

The only satisfaction in ownership is that it is cheap and reliable.

A great car for anyone who doesn't care what they drive, but likes a bit of cash in their back pocket.

1994 Ford Fiesta L 1.1i petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable and Simple, but very very basic

Faults:

Gear box and engine mounts both needed replacing.

Courtesy light only worked on drivers door, and that was extremely temperamental.

Front indicators leak water.

Leak through aerial leading into car.

Locks easily tampered with by little thieves.

General Comments:

Don't expect this car to go fast, it doesn't! However it's comfortable at 80mph and have had 104mph out of it with no trouble.

Drivers airbag which was rare at this age, but that is the only extra! Very basic, no PAS, electric anything.

1994 Ford Fiesta Equipe 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good runabout, but some silly faults

Faults:

Steering column lock had to be rebuilt in 2003.

Steering column stalk assembly had to be replaced in 2004.

Rear wiper intermittently fails.

General Comments:

A good runabout, but much heavier on fuel in town than my previous Panda.

Pity the rear seat base doesn't fold - limits its van-style capacity.

Comfortable to drive.

Power steering's a bit over-assisted for my taste.

Servicing's cheap, but part failures were irritating and quite expensive to rectify.

Driven modestly, it's quiet and comfortable.

Unlike the Panda, it's no fun to thrash (so I don't).

1994 Ford Fiesta Giha 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great nippy first car!

Faults:

Immobilizer sometimes has a mind of its own.

Exhaust all ways hangs low, out of the specified area.

Clutch replacement at 877000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is a perfect car to get young drivers established on the ever growing roads of the UK. With high reliability starting every time, you're never stuck any ware.

Driver image is little to be desired as it's a ford also the tappet sound from the engine can be annoying and sometimes embarrassingly loud!

Stops in good time and always sticks to the road no-matter how hard you push it.

Cheap replacement parts and easily found a local scrap yard for next to nothing.

1994 Ford Fiesta Si 1.6 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A car you could fall in love with if not for little problems

Faults:

Front shocks needed replaced twice in a year.

Clutch went at 105,000 which isn't really bad wen its the original clutch.

General Comments:

Superb seats and handles like a dream.

Top speed of 125mph or 130mph downhill it's a real nippy car.

Acceleration ain't great upto 20 but rockets after that.

With low profile 16" alloys K+N air filter and straight though power-flow exhaust it's a dream drive and sounds great.

1994 Ford Fiesta Si 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

This car is brilliant

Faults:

Clutch cable snapped the first day of owning the car, going up a hill.

General Comments:

This car is very quick with its 1.6 Zetec engine, a Pipercross induction kit, and full stainless steel exhaust system. They have have pushed the BHP up from 90 BHP to around 105 BHP.

The car handles like a dream. It has been lowered by 35mm, and that gives the car a better overall feel.

The 1.6 Si may not be the XR2i, but it handles like one, and has the same feel. I would have another any day over an XR2i, for the simple fact that the insurance is just the same as a 1.1 Popular, but at the same time, it has the feel of an XR2i.

Have you actually tested your Si to see if its kickin out 105hp? I've done the same mods, but it doesn't seem any faster. I don't really think you can get 15hp out of an induction kit and straight through exhaust, the zetec engines don't do that well to breathing modifications, but still it's a great car to drive. It's not far off an Escort XR3i for performance, but it's restricted by its tiny valves.
