1999 Ford Ranger XLT Off-Road 3.5 Flex Fuel from North America

Summary:

I am certain this will be the last Ford I ever buy

Faults:

Wipers turning on without hitting the wiper switch then wouldn't run for days.

Had wiper switch replaced under the recall twice. Still had problems. The things seemed to be fine for awhile. Then it all went down hill again.

50% of the time I don't have wipers at all.

This happened before and after the second switch recall replacement. When the wipers stop working so does the 4-wheel drive, interior lights, the door chime, and some times the air bags systems doesn't charge up.

It has been in 4 different shops including the Ford Dealer they say nothing is wrong. that the systems check out fine. Even if the systems in question aren't working.

If I lightly touch certain fuses in the fuse panel it kills the engine.

Since Dec 12 2006 I have been without Wipers, 4-wheel drive, and the other systems mentioned have all failed to work.

General Comments:

I like the truck for the size. it is quick to get around town and out on the open road.

The cabin could be roomier.

Over all I wish I had listened to people and never bought a Ford. Had issues with my Ford Tempo. Should of stayed away from the Maker.

1999 Ford Ranger xlt 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Fine

Faults:

Have 115,000 and has been a fine expierence. Always had a engine ping, but found that a fuel additive, CHEVRON TECHRON completely eliminated engine ping!!!I highly recommend this fuel treatment every few months.

General Comments:

Good daily utilitarian vehicle, decent ride, decent gas mileage.

1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 4.0L from North America

Summary:

Expensive to repair, but a fun truck..

Faults:

1 - Fuel pump 28 days after I bought it

2 - Thermostat - day I bought it

3 - Door Ajar light stays on - day I bought it

4 - Transmission went out at 123000

5 - Terrible howl up front - not the tires

6 - Thunk in driveline in rear and front. Dealership cannot seem to fix it

7 - Thermostat again at 128000 - caused severe overheating and cracked both heads...

General Comments:

Very fun truck to drive, despite a new fuel pump. New 3500 dollar transmission, cracked heads and numerous other crap... I'd own another one...

Some idiot owned this truck before me and I was too dumb to notice the problems before I bought it... they towed too much with this truck...

If added up the repairs and tow costs, it's be about 7000 bucks...

What do you think...

1999 Ford Ranger 6 from North America

Summary:

Well built, well priced

Faults:

I have only had two problems with this little truck. The first was when my speedometer went at about 95000. I attribute this to the fact that for a long time I had way too much weight in the bed of the truck and it blew out the sensor. It cost me about $250-300 US to get a diagnostic and replace the sensor. Again, like I said I am positive that this was my fault.

The second problem was this past winter (Jan, 06) when the second (middle) leaf spring cracked in half. I am not sure how this happened, but whatever the case it was fixed relatively easy with a run over to the bone-yard to grab one off a wrecked ranger.

General Comments:

It's a solid well built truck that has very good pricing, both new and used. My one problem has been with driving a 2wd truck in the New England winters. Not Fun. But I figure that's how it was done by everyone back before 4wd was a standard option for most vehicles.

1999 Ford Ranger XLT 2.5 from North America

Summary:

Basically a good truck

Faults:

Dome light does not go off, and the door ajar light stays on for a while after closing the door.

Spark knocks terribly, and I was told plugs are 110000 miles platinum, so it's probably carbon buildup.

Manual shifter knob gear indicator rotates when driving.

Radio did not shut off when I turned off the truck a few times, then no further incidents.

Does not seem that the ABS works, as the rear brakes still lock up under fast stops.

Expected better than 25 MPG.

A/C had a problem with the clutch I think, but is OK now.

General Comments:

I still have it despite the issues, and have not found anything else I want to replace it with, which is a surprise.

This review is of my truck and I would like to update it. I think the spark knock was bad gas because I ran premium gas through it several times and now no knocking, but oddly my gas mileage went up to 30 mpg with premium! I fixed the door ajar and dome light problem by spraying WD 40 in the door latch. Still has original tires on it with 81,000 miles and the brake pads are original too.
