1995 Ford Windstar LX 3.8 from North America

Faults:

We bought this van new in 1995. And at first it was reliable and comfortable.

However, we have had nothing but problems with it ever since.

The first problems were covered under the warranty. One being something to do with the hood latch. However, we've never had it fixed due to the fact they've never had the parts when we've tried to take it in for repair.

There was a defective latch on the sliding side door.

The door locks malfunctioned several times.

Then the brakes started making a grinding noise when it rained. The technician never found a problem. However, we now have to replace the front brakes every year.

Then the check engine light came on and they covered that defect by using the warranty. They said that our fuel intake gaskets were stuck in the open position. This problem occured twice. We had to pay for it the second time around.

Then they have had to replace the head gaskets twice.

We had the key get stuck in the ignition and the vehicle would not start.

Our timing belt broke.

Our gas tank started to leak and they had to replace the gas tank. However, it just so happened that there had just been a recall on that.

We've had a busted motor mount.

The dealership paid the first time our power windows quit working. But now I have the passenger window stuck in the up position and the driver window stuck in the down position.

The rear driver's side window came loose from the mechanism that opens and closes it.

The lumbar seat on the passenger side no longer holds air.

The rear cigarette lighter has never worked.

The rearview mirror fell off and we put that back on ourselves.

The gasket that fits around the sliding door came loose and was falling down. We also fixed that ourselves.

I keep thinking that the air conditioning will be the next to go. Every once in a while you can hear grinding while the air conditioner is on. We've been told that the compressor is probably going out.

Our door chimes work sometimes and sometimes they don't.

I know we've had other problems, but there are too many to list.

General Comments:

It's unbelievable that Ford has been allowed to continue to sell this vehicle with all its defects. And this will be the last time we buy one.

100% in agreement. We have the same problems plus the passenger door won't shut all the way. The computer thinks the door is open and the dome light will not go off. I would love to fix it, but I am out of money because of everything else that has gone out on the van. Don't buy it, the company will not stand behind anything on this vehicle.

I bought my Windstar in April, 1995 and have loved it ever since. I was a hokey coach and took 6 kids with all their stuff tied the the rack on the roof and never had a break down or problem. The car has 120,000 miles on it and is running strong. I had a very hard time replacing the spark plugs and wires since the transmounted engine is very compact. I have the extra large capacity air conditioning system which was very needed in the sumer time with 7 people riding inside. But with all their gear and hot weather we never had an uncomfortable ride and the engine ran great. The 3.8 liter v6 has roller tappets and aluminum heads. The original head gaskets were recalled by ford and they replaced them at about 40,000 miles. The new tin gaskets work well. Of course I never let the car get hot and always changed the oil when it was necessary. Also, the transmission has had the fluid and filter replace twice in 120,000 miles, which is an important maintenance item.

I am sorry to hear of your experience my has been very enjoyable.

Thanks.

Wendell.

Bought a 95 windstar new in fall of 95. Biggest mistake I ever made on a vehicle. 30,000 miles first set of head gaskets went. 60,000 miles second set of head gaskets went.

120,000 miles third set of head gaskets and motor went.

Replaced front brakes every 12,000 miles. I will NEVER buy a ford again. Biggest piece of junk I ever owned.

1995 Ford Windstar GL 3.8 from North America

Summary:

The most unreliable and most expensive van on the road!!!

Faults:

In the Summer of 2000, the engine went.

In December of 2000, the 1st transmission went. In New Jersey USA.

In July of 2001, the lighter unit came out, now does not work at all.

In July of 2001, the clips that hold back the vent buttons into the whole system snapped (now we use a screw driver so we can properly open and close the vents).

In August of 2001, the 2nd transmission went. While turning the corner coming home from a week end at the cottage.

Power steering unit is going.

Automatic braking system now makes noises every time you engage the brakes.

Ever since we have owned the van, our rear wiper blade motor has not worked and our tape deck hasn't worked either.

General Comments:

1995 Ford Windstars are crap!!!

Seats are comfortable though, haven't had any problems with the doors, windows or heater and A/C units. The van handles great (when it is actually road safe!!!)

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
