1991 Geo Metro LSI Convertible 1.3 liter from North America

Summary:

Dependable, cheap, great on gas, and my all time favorite car

Faults:

Geo's were known for the second cylinder going out, so I bought one of those motors off Ebay from Japan with only 35,00 miles on it.

Back bearings.

General Comments:

I love this little car, every one I know calls it the cutie car.

It's so dependable.

It gets the usual rust spots, but nothing as serious to fall through.

First car I ever had and I bet it lasts till my children drive.

1991 Geo Metro LSI Convertible 1.0 from North America

Summary:

Great fun in the sun

Faults:

I just picked up the car one day before Christmas December 24, 2002 from Ohio. I was driving back to Indianapolis in my new convertible, and the transmission started to slip, so I kept going because I checked all the fluids in it 20 minutes prior to leaving from buying it, and it was 30 miles later that I heard a nasty noise! Yes, the rods were knocking. I checked the temp gauge, and it was 3/4 on the gauge, so I pulled over and opened the hood, and saw transmission fluid coming from the filler tube, and it was pink. I knew what had happened; the coolant was mixing with the trans fluid, yuck. I checked the oil and it was full of antifreeze, so I limped it home on a prayer, knowing the complete drive line was shot. Thank god for having 3 parts cars. I've got a big winter project to do now, oh well, but it's after market trans coolers for now.

1991 Geo Metro Convertible 1.0 from North America

Summary:

The most fun you can have in a 3 cylinder commuter car

Faults:

The lifters had an intermittent sticking problem, common with the early Metros, that has hopefully been cured through the use of Sea-Foam.

The driver's inside door release handle has broken twice. Again, a common problem.

The exhaust system completely failed 2 years ago, a combination of a rusted-out muffler and a cracked catalytic converter pipe. I replaced the entire system with components from AutoZone for a total of $220. The replacements fit perfectly, and have a lifetime warranty.

The air conditioner doesn't currently work. It was switched to R134 refrigerant a few years ago, but it's leaking now.

The convertible top has only needed replacement once in the life of the car, 2 and a half years ago. I installed the aftermarket top myself, and it's been leak-free since.

General Comments:

This car is a prime example that any car can be better without a top.

It's reasonably quick, nimble, and very economical. A great combination.

Guaranteed to put a smile on the faces of passers-by.

1991 Geo Metro LSi 1.0 from North America

Summary:

Most reliable car that I've had

Faults:

I've had to replace simple things like brakes, tires, battery, wiper blades, etc... Nothing has went wrong while I've had it.

General Comments:

I bought this car from a friend of mine who bought it new she parked it because she thought that it was about to fall apart, well it sat for several years and I got it from her for 400.00 a battery and a wax job and it was good as new all it needed was a good tune-up and it was ready to roll again. I have never loved a car so much. I also have never had a car that had so little problems. Its true that this car isn't exactly fast or even quick, but its so reliable for me, always starts during the summer or winter no matter what. The gas mileage is excellent I can fill this little car up for 8.50 and drive for two weeks constant running. The little engine is very easy to work on and parts are easy to find. I change the oil every 2500 miles. I have had many people tell me that my little engine wouldn't last, but it just still tugs along. If I could change anything I would want to get a 5-speed instead of a automatic as the automatic doesn't do well on the highway.
