1986 Honda Accord LKI Hatchback from North America

Summary:

A beginner car

Faults:

When I got the car I had to replace the clutch (around 226,000 miles). which was not taken care of properly.

I had to replace a some belts in the engine because of loud squeaking when I ran the car.

The windows have problems rolling up because of the rubber joints that keep it in place were not doing what they were made for.

General Comments:

The car is a very light car and can take off very nicely.

The turning is a bit edgy, but can do what it is made for.

1986 Honda Accord from North America

Summary:

It's a good little car with a few slight problems

Faults:

I have done several things with the car over the years, but the things I remember most significant were, the most recent, I had a new fuel pump put in.

It was sitting for about a month and It did not start up when I went to it again. I had it towed to a mechanic, and had to have the fuel pump replaced.

The car has always had idle problems. For example, if it's too cold or hot out, or if I'm driving in heat in traffic, or for no reason at all, the car will die when I take my foot off the gas and try to brake. The car seems to idle so low, it just dies. Sometimes on the freeway! I have taken it in too many mechanics, and they say it's just a little dirty in the carburetor, which they blow out (or however they clean it) and give it back to me. It never seems to die on them. It only happens here and there, but it's an ongoing problem.

About 3 years ago I had to replace a C.B. Boot. I'm not sure what that is, but it was cracked.

The heater, even when turned off, will emit a slight heat (unless it's in circulation mode), so it gets pretty hot in the summer.

It also seems to be slightly slow when getting up to speed on the freeway and especially on steep hills or mountain type hills.

Other than that, the car has run pretty smooth.

General Comments:

This car is pretty reliable for a 1986.

Watch out for possible mold and water leaking around the floor. It smells strange after a good rain.

Once up to speed, my Honda can exelerate great. I even run into problems over speeding because I don't even notice how fast I am going.

The car drives great.

1986 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Great first car for my son to learn with

Faults:

The previous Owner said that the water pump had been replaced, but other than that, nothing has gone wrong with the car. It is currently disable with an overspeed problem. Thought the accelerator cable was hung up, but that is not the case. Trying to find out if it has an overspeed indicator that can be located and replaced.

General Comments:

This car reminds me of the older VWs. It has lots of space inside, even for a 6'4" person like me and feels very tight and stable on the road.

1986 Honda Accord LXi 2.0 fuel injected from North America

Summary:

Best car I've ever owned

Faults:

Clutch went at 220,000 (It was not original clutch)

Had a string of bad alternators... stay away from Napa Rebuilds!

I just replaced the original exhaust system (245,000 miles).

Some seams in back seat have come undone.

Paint job has suffered in the past 50,000 miles or so. It's looking like a car that has nearly 250K miles on it.

General Comments:

It's been a great car. It will look like hell long before it acts like it.

Honda Accords are Great - but, rust and creak and can be expensive as they age.

1986 Honda Accord LX-i 2.0 12 valve fuel injected from North America

Summary:

Lots of fun to drive, and practical too!

Faults:

Distributor rotor failed just before 80000 miles.

Both outer CV joint boots had to be replaced about 120000 miles, then one of the joints itself had to be replaced.

Plastic trim on bumpers faded a lot over the years.

Muffler rusted out about 100000 miles.

One of the power windows had to have its track replaced at about 150000.

Mine came with a very good dealer's service shop. They fixed the rotor in just two hours, on Christmas Eve!

General Comments:

The 5-speed manual is very easy to work (except it occasionally takes a few tries to get it into reverse) and gives excellent performance.

The combination of handling and ride is very good.

Recent mileage has been about 28 MPG overall; was just over 30 when I got it.

A lot of noise gets into the passenger compartment.
