2002 Honda Odyssey LX from North America

Summary:

Good performance - but very poor quality

Faults:

The dash lights all come on at once while driving. The car seems... unaffected by it but I'd like to be sure the van is safe for my wife and children.

Please help.

General Comments:

I have had 5 Hondas and this one (02 Odyssey) is the most un-Honda like vehicle I've experienced.

2002 Honda Odyssey EX 3.5 from North America

Summary:

Disappointing

Faults:

Replaced the transmission after 80k miles.

Now dash lights are flickering on an off speratically - Honda Service cannot diagnose the problem.

General Comments:

I am terribly disappointed. The best thing I ever did was buy an extended warranty. I highly recommend that for anyone. The only saving grace for Honda would be for them to recall all their transmissions. I'll never buy a Honda again.

Toyota cars have no style, but at least they're reliable!

I also have had numerous problems with my 2002 Honda Odyssey including having to get the transmission replaced at 75,000 miles. Last year the week before I was leaving for vacation, the transmission just quit. I had taken it to the dealer several times and they said nothing was wrong (which of course I knew it was). I fought with Honda America and they basically told me it was my fault the transmission went up. Eventually I ended up paying for the labor and they wouldn't even give me a loaner for the trip.

My passenger side airbag has been replaced 4 times and the light always comes on. They can't fix it for some reason.

I just had to get the lift back fixed because it stopped working at 82,000. The mechanic said it stemmed from an issue in the front driver seat with a faulty wire (but not covered by warranty).

I had never bought a Honda before this nor will I ever again. They are expensive cars and apparently not worth the money. Between the problems with this expensive van and the lack of service from the dealer, I will never buy another. I have had every other foreign car and I keep going back to the Toyota's.

2002 Honda Odyssey EX from North America

Summary:

The most disappointing vehicle I've ever had, Honda is way overrated

Faults:

Power sliding doors x2.

Eye glass holder.

ABS control x2.

Traction control.

Transmission x2.

Tires at 11,000 miles.

Power drivers seat motor.

Belt tensioner.

Courtesy handle fell off.

Side vent window motors.

General Comments:

I bought the Odyssey van based on its comfort and the reputation that Honda had for being a reliable vehicle.

I still like the comfort and design of the van, but will never purchase another Honda. What was sold as a vehicle that only requires gas and oil changes, has been the most repaired and disappointing thing I've ever owned.

All the repairs so far have been covered by the extended warranty I purchased, but the fact is the van continues to be in for repairs more than I expect from Honda; none of my American made cars ever had so many problems.

Honda built their reputation on the Accord, and failed to carry over the high quality into the Odyssey. I'll just have to wait for the 2008 Hyundai Entourage to be released.

2002 Honda Odyssey EX V6 from North America

Summary:

Overall great vehicle

Faults:

Engine light comes on regularly. Usually dealer says it is due to gas cap not tight. Eventually it goes out after 3 days.

EGR valve replaced at 80,000 miles.

Automatic sliding doors freeze shut in winter.

Transmission recalled on 2002 models. Luckily ours was covered under warranty two days after driving it off of the lot.

General Comments:

Plenty of room in rear for adults and child carseats.

Hope to drive for 100,000 more miles.

2002 Honda Odyssey LX from North America

Faults:

The power passenger door jams quite often.

The battery has died numerous times in the past two years. I keep a spare set of jumper cables.

The clock light burned out at 20 K miles.

The side mirrors do not work.

The transmission is inconsistent. Sluggish, under-powered, and never know if it will go or bog down.

Most uncomfortable front seats I've ever sat in.

The windshield has a glare. I can see a reflection of the dashboard in it.

The headlights leave much to be desired for night driving.

Over-rated, over-stated, over-priced. My first new vehicle in 13 years and I wouldn't have another Honda if it was a freebie!
