"Great looking, good power for its class, reliable"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Driver electric door lock stoped working...

Fixed itself on its own somehow.

Timing belt makes some irritating noise when cold... -10 to -20

reving it a bit fixes that.

General comments?

Some helarious Cheap things.

The dash color has a really nice blue

however it seems colorfully cheap to have all other small details yello.

They skip 180 and 200

it has been replaced by 160 190 220

with extra bars.

Somehow I do not have ABS working.

Ac works great.

However when you start your car in winter with defrost option ac always gets on and must always manually turn it off.

It costs less than a civic, sentra, corrola and protege.

More power 2.0 16v

fantastic look 5dr hatchback

better handling

cheap decent mags 195/60/r15

cd player and speakers are very good for stock

Fuel effency is good.

I love the car

it looks great

its reliable

it has some class with the saab 900 style.

I do not plan to bring it to a hyundai dealership.

I have read about 10 negative reviews about their service.

The A/C is supposed to come on with the defrost. The compressor helps to dehumidify the air, speeding up the defogging of the windows.

I am the one with the poor english spelling that wrote the original review.

Just an update 2 years later.

Driver side door lock still fails maybe once every 2 month for a short perior do time...

I replace my timing belt... (now have 120 000km) so no more belt noises the past 2 winters

I FINALLY replaced my back brakes... 400$cdn disks and pads...

My front brakes have NEVER been changed since I own the car... they suck, but they still work.

My pain has not chipped...

2 accidents...

My friend slammed the car sideways over a high sidewalk, dislocated the front left wheel, hit the tranny under the hood (all gears were like neutral) Other broken parts... 800$ repairs (I expected much worse)

And my neighbor fainted and smashed his buick into my car.

Repared by some company that deals with the insurance... 5700$ estimate because they probably ripped off my insurance company...

Emmmm what else

Same stock radio... still plays cd's...

The stock speakers don't sound as good as they used to... but I am shocked that they haven't blown up yet...

Check engine light was on for the last 8 months or something... somehow my fuel consumption has dropped a little... kinda confusing...

Check engine lights are just for people with money who like to bring their car to the dealerships so they can charge them a fortune for NOTHING...

I think I noticed a few days ago my check engine light go off on its own... I don't care really.

Shocks are still pretty good.

Clutch is still running fine...

I think the Hyundai Elantra clutch sucks... its soft and slips if you try to burn your tires to take off real fast... (still have to pay the car for 1 year so trust me, I don't abuse it... too much (I had a 92 Civic that took my childhood beatings very well and never died)

Overall... the clutch does its job properly and I am almost certain it will live up to 180000km to 220000km if I don't try to kill it myself.

I don't drive stupid, I don't abuse my car by redligning it.

But I do drive harder then other drivers.

I also drive fast.

I also live in Montreal with 5 to 6 months of winter, salt and crap on the horrible potholed roads.

Added 17" aftermarket rims... car looks even better.

Never got a speeding ticket and I am ALWAYS over the limit... so a beige 4 door hyundai... cops don't really look for those...

I average 400 to 490km on a full tank of gas.

Big gas tank tho unlike the civics and integra (45 liters)

I do 60% city driving and 40% highway... so its pretty decent.

Engin is Very good from 1000RPM to 4500RPM... once you hit 5000RPM... it feels as if you lose power...

The Hyundai Elantra is one amazing car!!!

My STRONG advice.

Buy a used 2002 - 2005 Elantra for 5000 to 7000$

Milk it for 5 years...

Then get another 2 year old one... milk it again...

Hyundai dealerships are no good... I wouldn't even give them my car even under warranty!
