^I have the exact same issue with my J30 94. I thought it just might be the car itself. I am clueless when it comes to comes to cars. I will have to look into that. I changed the timing belt and spark plugs. I also put a new stereo in, cause the previous owner that had it, didn't have the faceplate of the stereo. The sound system is awesome. Overall, I'm very happy with car. I cannot believe that an old car like this can run so great and is very luxurious, even with todays standards. I can only imagine, it must have been top of the line back in 94.

I have another issue with mine, sometimes, when I start up the car. The check engine will light up and the car will start jerking, it only last for a couple of minutes or so, and it goes away. However, this is only happens on occasions. For example 14 out 15 times starts perfectly. It doesn't happen often. Nevertheless, it does happen sometimes. A friend of mine told me that it is the connectors that are connected to the spark plugs (don't know how they are called). He said they cost around $50 each, so for 6 of them it would cost me around $300. My only concern is, should I continue driving until they give up? or will this issue cause any other damages if they don't get replaced as soon as possible?

Currently, it has 151,000 miles. It runs extremely smooth. It's extremely comfortable and feels really stable when sitting inside.

I own a 1997 J30 and I second everything performance-wise that has been posted. I always wanted a 300ZX (a model from 1993-1996), so I figured I got that (minus the turbo) and a little luxury with my J. It has 116k+ miles on it and JUST YESTERDAY the driver's side door decided to lock and refuse to unlock. This happened once before, but then it started working again. I'm not so lucky this time.

What happens is when I press 'unlock' on my keyless entry fob, there is a grinding noise (like the door is trying to unlock) and the door only unlocks halfway cause me to have to enter the car from the passenger side like a freak. I've tried unlocking the door with the key (and manually from inside) to no avail, so I sought out to find answers. After scowering the Internet, I found this site (yay) and the part number for the lock relay. I ordered the part and am hoping to receive it soon so I can install it.

Out of curiosity, I called the Infiniti dealership to "get the facts" about this problem. To my surprise, I spoke with a parts specialist who was very familiar with the locking issue and promptly told me that I needed to replace the actuator ($118.36) and the device (latch) that helps keep the door closed ($65). He then blind-transferred me to someone in service for a price to install these devices. To my despair, the person in the service department told me that if I couldn't get the door open (because he didn't know how), I needed to go to a body shop and have them open the door.

I said all of that to say that:

1. If this is a known problem for this model at a certain mileage, there should be some documentation provided to owners so we/they can know when to expect this device to go on the fritz.

2. The service and parts people at the dealership should be equipped with the knowledge of this problem and how it will be fixed. Telling someone to go to a body shop is the LAST thing I would want to hear from someone that works for a dealership.

I will post the outcome of my relay installation with hope that it will help some other owner (s) with this issue.

Hello,

I have a 1994 Infinity J30 that has an issue with the turn signal and/or flasher unit. The flasher unit constantly make a clicking noise as if the flasher or turn signal was activated. I also just noticed some smoke coming from the steering column. Does anyone have any advise for me?

Please email jbadvantagehi@aol.com.

Thank you.

I have a 1994 Infiniti J30 with 222K miles. I am the original owner and really love this car. The only problems with the car have been 1) fuel pump that was replaced early on (50K) ; 2) Replaced interior light relay; 3) replaced a main fuse, 4) Rear window motor replacement and 5) Replace the Radio/CD unit.

I now have an issue that I hope someone can help me with. Recently all the dash lights stopped working. I have looked in both fuse boxes (engine compartment and interior) but cannot find a fuse labeled dash lights. As a matter fact I have taken out all the fuses and they all appear to be OK. Any idea what the rating of the fuse is. I might be able to find it that way. Also if it is not the fuse any idea what the issue could be? Thanks in advance.

For the problem with the dash lights going out, locate the rotating dial that adjusts dash light intensity to the left and below the steering column. After checking that it's rotated to the fully on position, give this area a sharp whack with the back of your left hand. This fixes it consistently on my '93 J30.

Great car. 94 second owner 105K. I am currently in the middle of the door lock / theft deterrent system vortex. Keyless entry stopped working, locks seem to have a mind of their own, and factory alarm opts to go off as it sees fit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1994 J30t. It has around 122,000 miles. It has been quite amusing reading all of your follies... I have experienced many of the same. I lost the alarm key fob shortly after I acquired the car, and had problems getting the car alarm to stop and also the ignition to start. Someone at the Nissan dealer told me to put the key in the driver's door lock and turn it twice to the right and then once to the left. This bypasses the alarm and automatic engine lock. My left headlight comes on and goes off whenever it wants to (more off than on). I, too have had it checked many times. I thank whomever it was that discovered it was the relay box near the firewall. My door locks seem to engage whenever they want to, also. That's no big deal as long your key are not inside while you are outside. I had that happen to me. Now it's no big deal because I have an extra key. My most annoying problem is the belts - they squeal. I've had them replaced and tightened and a short time later they squeal again. Any advice on this? I had the radiator replaced last summer, and almost immediately it started overheating again. Now it won't hold water and I have to fill it up every time I drive somewhere. Someone told me that I have a faulty water pump. Any advice on this? I'm a single mom and cannot afford expensive repairs. I live in Pensacola, FL, so if anyone knows anyone who can do work on my J30t please add your comments. Thanks.

Thanks to all you Infinity owners. This site has really saved me time and money on bogus mechanics, who want to charge an arm and a leg for a diagnostic test.

However, the problem I am having with my 1995 J30 at 130K miles is as follows:

When driving for about 10 to 20 miles I start to notice that "hot" air exhaust will start to blow into the passenger part of the car. Could this mean that I am having a problem with the cooling system, transmission or air filter. Secondly the car will drastically reduce acceleration when the A/C is turned on. (Any one have the the same?)

I had my mechanic check the spark-plugs and he stated they are fine. I almost have to floor the vehicle to get it going.

Any other suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Since its summertime here in Cali. High - 90's and I really need the A/C...

To the lady in Pensacola: I've always had my Infiniti serviced at Nissan in other cities. The repairs were always much less expensive and all the parts are Nissan anyway. I now live in Pensacola also, so if you find someone that does a good job on your car, please share the info. Especially if anyone knows a good A/C mechanic in the area. That's my problem now with my 97 J30. Got 180,000 relatively trouble-free miles and would really hate to get rid of it, but will have to if the repairs get too much.

I have recently acquired a 1994 J30. It has sat for 14 months since my aunt passed away. The car seems to run just fine with just a few "minor" problems: 1) The dash lights are not operating AND the electric trunk lock is not operating. I suspect a "common fuse" problem, but I do not have an Owners Manual and cannot find a fuse labeled either Dash Lights or Trunk Lock. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me at: ccconsultants@msn.com

I have a 1994 J30T and I have owned it since 1998. This car is pretty terrific. I have had very little problems with it. The only problems include:

1. The doors sometimes lock on there own.

2. The BOSE CD/radio goes dead intermittently.

I would like to buy another Infinity soon. Will I have a problem selling a older vehicle such as this one?

I just picked up a 93 j30 from a guy in my town for $200. No that isn't a typo. it needs a new timing belt, AC belt, a little body work (nothing serious, few dents), a new sunroof gasket, and a wash. but I have also heard that the timing belt being broken may have affected the cylinder heads. can anyone give me a heads up on that issue?

I got a 1995 infinity j30 with 147k on it. The only problems I have with this car is that the sun roof does not work and also the rear windows comes down half way. Also my rack and pinion broke on me, but I fix that problem with lucas oil rack and pinion seal, which you can purchase this item at advance auto parts. Then there went my A/C compressor and I know that is going to cost me a arm and a leg. But overall I give my car a 9 out of 10 and I would not trade it for noting else once it keeps running well.

Cannot say how happy I was to find this site. I have a '93 J30 w/186,000 miles and bought it off lease 12 yrs ago. It still runs great, but with some of the probs that others have had. My biggest prob right now is getting the stereo/CD to work. I had it removed once before at the dealer and they sent it back to Bose and it was fine, but cost a lot. I know for a fact the actual stereo works, it just doesn't seem to get any power. Had an auto electrician go thru the entire car, but could find nothing wrong. Shocking! I have decided to completely restore this car (it needs a little body work and new carpet/rugs). It is housed in Rhode Island so I am looking for someone who may work on these cars and knows them well. I too had the popping sound just prior to no stereo. Also get this chiming sound when I move just the right way in driver's seat. What's up with that?! Other than those two things, this car still runs perfectly. Just yesterday, my two girlfriends wanted to ride in my car versus theirs because they enjoy the smooth ride/handling in this one! I would appreciate any input if you could e-mail me at dbow2458@hotmail.com. Thanks.

I just bought a 94 J30 with 190k on the dash for 1000.00 It runs perfectly, but has the head lamp problem and the dash light problem. The ac works like a dream in this 100 degree weather. Nothing works on my driver side door and it won't open plus the sunroof works when it wants too. Over all it's a great car, I drove it to five hours to South Carolina from Atlanta Georgia and it did not skip a beat. Please email me with any help or comments on my door problem. lydia_gibbs@yahoo.com.
