2000 Jaguar S-Type 3.0 from North America

Summary:

OK and comfortable

Faults:

Well I guess we all have some horror stories, but I have been fortunate my Jaguar S Type has not given me any major problems, except for the fan motor, which was an expensive fix.

I bought the car with 75000 miles; now I have 155000.

I drive it everyday, wondering when it will blow up, but nothing happens.

I just change the oil when I'm supposed to, tune it up, and do all general maintenance; lucky I guess!!!

Summary:

Open your wallet and give money away

Faults:

It's a beautiful car, BUT ever since a rear end accident in 2007 (after purchased) it has been nothing but problems! The repairs from the accident were fully covered, BUT after the accident, the transmission has went out, leaking in the trunk and drivers side rear seats, coils misfire, and now the traction default light came on (today while driving home). This car has been nothing but a MONEY PIT! I will NEVER purchase a Jag EVER again!

2000 Jaguar S-Type 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Good looking, smooth ride, but an unreliable piece of garbage

Faults:

Put five transmissions in car (4 covered under warranty) ; drivers window fell into door unexpectedly. Air conditioner compressor went at 50K miles!!

General Comments:

Piece of garbage Ford product made in Great Britain. Outdated electronics, poor transmission, poor air conditioning.

All the leather in the world and a smooth ride can't make up for lack of reliability.

Pass on Jaguar. As the adage goes: You need two Jaguars: one for your garage and the other for the repair shop!

Faults:

My car is a 2000 S-Type, and it is at the dealership right now. I took it in because it was shifting hard.

The technician that serviced it came back and said it was the ABS module, the thermostat and radiator hose. I had those replaced, and then it was still happening. He then said the transmission was the issue. A second tech looked at it and said it was the cable. Replaced that, and still the same issue.

Now they are looking at the fluid level. Now I am about to be near 6k in the hole if I need a transmission. This is not cool to replace all this other stuff and not fix the car. That a rip off if you ask me.

Summary:

Now I'm wondering and having second thoughts on buying the car

Faults:

I bought this car used. Car is in excellent condition and low mileage, and all service done by a Jaguar Dealer with the prior owner. I have had the car now for about one month.

Only problem I'm having is I follow what everybody posted; step on the brake, put the car in neutral, then set parking brake, then put vehicle in park. My problem is I will shift up to the park position, but the gear shift console shows the vehicle in reverse. So I have to go back and forth until it goes into the park position.

One time after trying several times to put in park, I got fed up and left it showing it was in reverse with the parking brake on. I even tested it with the parking brake on and it showing it in reverse. I held the brake pedal down and rev it up to see if the car would take off in reverse. It didn't, but when I try to start the car with it showing in reverse, it wouldn't start, I had to put it in neutral to start. What is the cause of this?

2000 Jaguar S-Type 4.0L from North America

Summary:

Beautiful car to drive, nightmare to own

Faults:

Sunroof replaced twice.

Engine head gasket.

3 different window motors/parts.

Front shocks.

Temperature gauge/radiator.

Engine fan.

2 different batteries died.

Transmission starting to go.

Ashtray broken ($160 to fix).

General Comments:

Gorgeous car, comfortable, well-laid out interior, fantastic performance, handling and acceleration. A head turning car. And an absolute nightmare to own.

Worst car I have ever owned from a reliability perspective. We forgave it and kept paying for repairs, but when the transmission started acting up and the repair tech told us it could go in another 50,000km, and that could be over $4,500, we had to surrender it.

As much as I enjoyed driving it, I would warn any and everyone away from ever owning one. I can't imagine how they will rebuild their brand.
