1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L from North America

Summary:

Must have been built on a Friday

Faults:

Rear differential was making a grinding noise, we were told that it was a bearing and could cost up to $800.00 to repair. We bought this used so we had no extended warranty. Although the dealer somehow wrote off most of the cost, so we ended up paying a little over $200.00. (makes me think that Chrysler knows about this problem, but wouldn't fix it for free).

The selector knob for the heat vents no longer works. The front defrost is all that we get, our feet freeze. Having this looked at this week.

Every time I roll the driver side window up and down, the motor for the passenger window makes a clicking noise.

Constant squealing coming from wheels. I don't know if this is the brakes, rotors or what. But the squealing is constant while I am driving.

Cruise control decided to quite working last week.

General Comments:

I have always liked the look of Chrysler's products, I guess that's the way they make their sales because it certainly isn't on the quality. I guess I could kind of say that my Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is like the star of the football team, all looks and nothing else.

I have more realiablity with my 1989 Chev Beretta with 256,000km.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 6 cylinder from North America

Faults:

Front left and right window regulators went out at 45000 miles.

Differential rebuilt at 47500 miles.

Leather seating on driver's side is already starting to wear out.

Had to replace front rotors at 45000 miles.

General Comments:

If I were to buy this car again, which I doubt, I would definitely get an extended warranty.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A very bad buy for a lot of money

Faults:

The brake rotors are the main problem, have had them replaced three times and turned twice, and they need it again.

Also the transfer case went out and the rear differential also.

General Comments:

My previous Jeep, a 1995, was great, but this 99 is a piece of junk. My last Jeep.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0 Liter Straight Six from North America

Summary:

Reading other peoples comments I hope this one lasts.

Faults:

I haven't had any repaires on my vehicle beside basic maintenance.

General Comments:

This is my second Grand Cherokee that I have owned. Both of them are very dependable and reliable up to 100,000 miles. That is when the throttle positioning sensor went out on my previous Grand Cherokee which was a 1997 Orvis with the 5.2 liter. The new Jeep isn't much different, but the a lack of horse power is noticable when you are used to driving a V-8 compared to a driving the straight six.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo V8 from North America

Summary:

Junk and waste of hard earned money.

Faults:

Front end will not hold an alignment, leaking oil, replaced drive shaft.

General Comments:

I've taken this vehicle in 3 times for an alignment and it will not hold it. The first time I took it in, I don't even think they touch the thing.

Replaced drive shaft. After taking it in twice for the same problem (first time they said nothing was wrong), they finally realized the drive shaft needed to be changed.

Leaking oil now too.

I bought this vehicle over the summer and have put a total of 5k on it. What happened to the inspections is what I want to know? Major rip off. Good thing I bought the 80K warranty or I'd be out a lot of cash right now.

1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. V6 from North America

Summary:

Except for break/rotor problems, jeep is an exceptional vehicle

Faults:

Rear passenger window leaked - dealership fixed for free.

Breaks starting to squeak.

General Comments:

I have only had this jeep for 5 months, but truly love it.

I know about the problems with the brakes, and they do squeak. If a problem with the rotors develop, I will not have jeep install new ones as that will not solve the problem. Will get after-market.

Living in New England I need 4-wheel drive (especially this year) and it has performed perfectly.

There are terrible blind spots out either side of the windshield.
