2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 from North America

Summary:

Not pleased

Faults:

Tail lamps have been replaced 2 years ago with OEM parts. Having the same problem with the brake lamp working and not working after the headlamps are turned on. When the tail lamps don't work, the third brake lamp stays on. Have torn the car apart to see if there's a short or bad ground. Everything points to replacing the tail lamps again. OH! I forgot! They're only warranted for 12 months!!! This should be a recall!!! Customer Safety Issue!

This all on top of transmission problems (still), heater core, etc. Jeep needs to take of their customers better and start issuing recalls on the known problem, especially the one tail lamp problem, which is a SAFETY ISSUE!

Seems like you are focused on the lights, but you didn't really elaborate on what kind of transmission problems or any other major issues you've had. Tail lights are hardly a major problem, even though they can be a safety issue. You need to find a good shop that can handle electrical problems, and get to the bottom of it. It is probably something simple that has been overlooked.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 V8 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Really good base to work some mods on

Faults:

I broke the front prop shaft CV joint during a run out back of Broken Hill, outback Australia; one too many mud holes.

The only other issues have been routine maintenance, as you will find on any car.

Brakes feel bad, but have stopped me in emergency braking situations easily.

General Comments:

Made in Steyr Austria (import to Australia), body/chassis tuning by Porsche, Auto by Mercedes, and a torquey V8 from Chrysler. With a few mods, you have a really quick car that will 4wd with the best.

Cornering is as you would expect from a 4wd, but the ride is great compared to the competition in the price range on the 2nd hand market.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 from North America

Summary:

If I would have known all the issues, I would have purchased new sneakers and a bike

Faults:

Over heating, replaced radiator twice, replaced water pump twice, replaced cooling sensor three times, thermostat, water hoses, fan, fan clutch, fan relay replaced 4 times, rebuilt tranny, head cylinder, shocks, brakes, rotors, headlights.

Rear lights failed to work, so I replaced them, door locks do not work, replaced all leather seats, replaced door panels, the over head information panel between interior lights malfunctioning, loud thumping sound from the under carriage.

Ummm, what else? Oh, yes, the fuel pump replaced 4 times.

My truck now shuts down all the time, it appears that I may have to replace the crankshaft position sensor. Now, I know why I was sold a 2000 JGC in 2005 for $5K. I have replaced almost everything except for the entire engine and muffler system. Lord hear my prayer!

General Comments:

Please do not purchase a Jeep anything... Buy a Kia instead.

Sorry to hear that... my friend bought a Cherokee last year for $3k, it worked for maybe 2 months, then he had to spent another $1k on repairs. It worked for maybe a week, then the 4x4 stopped working, transmission leak, and the head gasket blew and he had no money to fix it, so he sold the Jeep for $400. What a waste of money! He had to ride his bicycle to work until he could save up enough to get a $500 Sunfire.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6.0 from North America

Summary:

I love it otherwise, black on black heated seats etc

Faults:

Back windshield wiper never hit the window when in use.

Transmission slips between 2nd and 3rd.

Will not go into 4 wheel drive at all; the shift will not move.

Engine has a ticking sound. Chrysler told me I might need a new engine.

Radiator fan stopped working, and now car starts to overheat when I stop at light, must keep moving.

General Comments:

Does anyone know if the radiator fan is under a recall? I tried the two fuses, not the problem.
