2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Some very poorly designed features!!

Faults:

Our Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo tail lights have been a constant source of problems, where every week, the brake lights won't work at night! Fixing ONE side, causes the other side to fail! We suspect it's the contacts that are unreliable and very poorly designed.

We had replaced the complete tail-light fixture on the driver's side, but the problems have not gone away. We finally had it and reported the problem to NTSB as a safety issue, since we don't want to be rear-ended!

It's amazing the number of Jeeps we see on the road who have the same problem, where during the braking, ONLY one side works!! This is why ALL of our other cars are Japanese, and it's a shame that this problem has NOT been all through these model years.

Please report the problem to NTSB as well, so maybe the company will fix this for good.

General Comments:

The car has been mostly problem free for us, with the exception of the tail lights and the yellow lenses in the headlights.

We had to replace the water pump and the radiator relay, which died on us.

Earlier on, the car was also pulling as well, and kept pulling, and had to be serviced several times.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo from North America

Summary:

I love my Jeep, but won't buy another one

Faults:

CD changer quit about 4 years ago...

Have had to replace all door locks - separate times.

If my lights are "automatic", they turn off/on during the night. Hilarious to have the car parked in the driveway, it's dark, and all of a sudden you see your headlights flash on and off!

Seat heaters turn themselves on at will. Summer time, driving down the highway, and all of a sudden a whoosh of heat! Happens to driver's seat as well as passenger.

Over the past year or so, major problems with brake lights. People will call me (I have a phone number on my car/business related) and tell me my brake lights are not working, or as good Samaritans, pull next to me and tell me. Keep taking it to my garage, they (do something) fix it, or my husband replaces bulbs. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. My husband thinks I am nuts!

It keeps overheating when we pull our 24 foot trailer... the engine must be too tired.

General Comments:

I love my Jeep, it is my second one, and it has high mileage. If I had it all to do over again, I would still purchase one.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo from North America

Faults:

Routine brake pads, rotors and fuel pump.

Recently my seat broke on the driver's side. This is my 2nd Cherokee and I had the same problem with my Box Cherokee.

I am going to try and fix the problem with 3" radiator hose clamps as suggested by another owner on this site. I have not had the numerous problems others have reported, but I am thinking about purchasing another brand when I get my next SUV.

Jason in Memphis.

General Comments:

No major problems, I have been driving a Jeep for the last 10 years, and mine have proven very reliable, and have not cost a lot to operate.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7 V8 from North America

Summary:

212,000 miles and still going strong

Faults:

Replaced back brake lights.

Replaced two ABS sensors.

General Comments:

I bought my Grand Cherokee over a year ago; it had 196,000 miles on it. The couple I bought it from took extremely good care of the car & the exterior & interior are in excellent condition.

My grand Cherokee now has 212,000 miles, & it still runs amazing! I always hear about how the 4.0 l6 is such a great engine, but my 4.7 V8 still sounds & runs like it has a tenth of the miles it has on it.

I've heard other people having reliability issues with their Grand Cherokee. All I know is my experience has been completely opposite. I believe if you do preventative maintenance, these cars will run forever.
