2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L from North America

Summary:

Best vehicle on the road!

Faults:

There are so many bad comments on here about every vehicle, I just thought I'd post up a good one. Sure, we've had our fair share of problems with the front brakes... squeaking due to worn/overheated rotors... I think it was more of a Les Schwab parts thing than Jeep, but I could be wrong after reading others similar situations.

Our FWD system gave us a few problems when we'd put it in reverse, but a new fluid in the transfer case fixed that.

General Comments:

I love my Jeep and would buy many more in the future. I'm 6'3", and the Jeep is the only vehicle that I have been able to sit upright in, making it better on my back for those long trips.

As a commuter car, the Jeep is easy to turn, making getting through crowded parking lots or traffic easier, and since you're sitting higher up than most vehicles it's easier to see... oh I hate not seeing above the crowd, guess it's due to my height and what I'm used to.

Overall, I'd recommend buying a Jeep to anyone. Just maintain it, and it will last you 300,000 miles or more!

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 from North America

Summary:

Why, oh why?

Faults:

Driver's side view mirror assembly broke. Mirror wobbles to and fro inside the case.

Driver's side seat recently broke loose from the floor!!!

Had to have new rotors put on twice in 10 years.

Fan broke, so no A/C or heat comes into the cabin.

Rear windshield wiper assembly broke. (We bought a new one on ebay and a friend replaced it.)

General Comments:

This is my second Jeep Grand Cherokee (my previous was a '94). My husband wasn't keen on my getting another Jeep (he hated the '94), but I have only owned this brand and model. Plus we wanted a V8 for towing our boat to/from the lake.

I've had some maintenance issues, but the vehicle is now 10 years old and I've (knock on wood) not had any serious issues.

These past 10 months seem to be the worst for items malfunctioning. We had over a week of 100+ degree weather... and THAT WEEK the air-conditioning stopped working. The cold air just would not come out. Trickled out of the vent. My husband had a friend do a temp fix on it (we, like most folks are cash-poor right now). That got me through the summer and winter (needed heat!) but just recently the fan stopped working again.

The WORST was earlier this year when the driver seat just came loose from the floor! I noticed a slight "rocking" when I got in and then it got worse. Now my seat rocks from left-front to right-rear like it's come loose in 2 spots. The power seat still moves front/back and tilts and everything. It's just loose. I cannot believe this isn't a recall issue -- especially after seeing all the other complaint postings here.

My husband needed to replace a couple of brake bulbs, so he went to the Jeep dealer to the parts department to get them. He asked them about the seat, and the guy told him the seat would need to be replaced (at $1200!) or for us to look for one in a junk yard. Yeah, like THAT is how I'm going to spend my weekends.

So, now I see some folks here have had it welded. Fortunately, my brother is a welder and metal worker and will do this for me gratis. I'll show him this website to look at the suggestions. Hopefully, he'll be able to do a repair. I feel VERY unsafe driving the vehicle now, but it's our only car. :(

I would not purchase another Jeep/Chrysler product. We are not satisfied. I'll just drive this one into the ground -- hey, it's paid for. And hopefully can get a few more years out of it.
