2002 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7 Power Tech V6 Auto from North America

Summary:

Head Turner!

Faults:

I have not had any mechanical problems with my new Jeep. I have noticed many defects in the paint. There is a "ripple" in the paint near the front left tire. Also, the rubber molding around windows have discolored.

General Comments:

I have wanted a Jeep since I was a kid and now I have one. I have always liked both the Wrangler and the Cherokee and now I have the best of both worlds! I love the way the Liberty turns. I could drive in circles all day long! It is so much fun to drive and it goes anywhere!

Mechanical problems with my 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport 4x4 with 3.7 engine. The drive train is making a growling noise when drive 47 to 55 mph. When letting off the gas the noise is gone at this speed. So far the dealer does not know what to do or where to start looking. They are having the factory engineers discuss where to start looking. It may be a bearing problem or drive shaft problem.

2002 Jeep Liberty Limited 3.7 from North America

Summary:

Big mud meets big city

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong for me was a rear taillight. The dealer ordered the part on Monday, and Tuesday I was back out on the road.

The tow hitch has the spare tire in the way and a drop hitch sits to low. The safety latch on the trailer hits the spare tire.

The female end of the rear seat belts need to be about 2 inches higher.

No place to store anything in the front area.

General Comments:

Fun, fun, fun, fun!!!

Has plenty get up and go.

Off road ability is great.

The leather seats in the limited are power, and heated. After long rides though you will need to stretch.

You forgot to mention that the Jeep Liberty has no dome light, and it is very frustrating. I called Jeep and they say "sorry". ric8_98@yahoo.com.

FYI The liberty does too have a dome light. The two map lights in the front act as dome lights, and then there is the the dome light in the rear cargo area. If you owned a Liberty, you would know this.

I own a jeep liberty limited and it is very nice and fun to drive. But there is no true dome light. A dome light by definition is a light in the middle of the car between the back seat and front seat and there isn't one, but your right the two front lights and rear light "act" as a dome light.

I have a 2002 Liberty Limited, and the two dome lights in the front, that you click on to read maps, etc., are a brilliant feature -- one of the nicest things about the inside design.

Very intuitive design, you just click the light and it goes on, click again and it's off. Better than any old-fashioned ceiling dome light I ever had!

2002 Jeep Liberty Limited: cargo and front dome lights come on after starting the Jeep, and remain on throughout until several minutes after parking the car and exiting. Very frustrating. I remember my 1996 Grand Jeep Cherokee doing the same thing...

Any ideas?

Also: back gate latch not latching appropriately (not the cause of dome light... as it has been an ongoing problem for years). Replaced the gate latch once at $160.
