1991 Mazda B2200 SE-5 2.2L gasoline from North America

Summary:

Great basic transportation

Faults:

Slave cylinder went bad.

Gas gauge only works at 1/4 tank or less.

General Comments:

I'm on my 3rd year with this truck. Simply put, the thing is really indestructible. I have literally spent less than $100 on this vehicle in three years and 23k miles.

I gave it a 7 on performance, because the engine is a dog - 60mph is pretty much your top speed going uphill, and beyond 70mph, the engine is roaring. Other than that, it performs fine. Great, especially around town, where it's easy to park.

Reliability is a 10. The only thing that has gone wrong with it was the slave cylinder went out while I was at work. I was able to bleed enough air out to drive 50 miles on the interstate, conserve shifts, and make it to my driveway. 20 minutes later I had a new cylinder on and bled.

Don't think you're going to make this a luxury vehicle, because it is basic transportation and no more. That said, I wouldn't be afraid to drive this truck anywhere in the country.

1991 Mazda B2200 Xtracab 2.2 Carby from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

One hell of a gem

Faults:

Well I have had nothing go wrong with this ute.

Only little stuff, wear and tear. Had to replace brake pads, tail gate latch and a few bulbs. Had to clean out the washer bottle motor, just regular service issues; even tyres last 3 years on this ute.

General Comments:

Love it, love it.

Will never sell it.

This ute is unbelievably reliable, and cheap to run on gas.

The cabin is very straightforward and simple, which I love, not like a car, very truck style.

Has power steering, which makes for easy handling for an old ute.

1991 Mazda B2200 SE-5 2.2L from North America

Summary:

It is a great truck

Faults:

When I bought the truck, the muffler was off of the car, & it had no bumpers. There was quite a bit of rust for a car.

General Comments:

It has aged quite nicely, for sitting in the back of a field for 6 months.

It definitely has some "get-up-&-go".

It is a great little 1st truck.

1991 Mazda B2200 2.2 liter gas from North America

Summary:

The best truck I have ever owned

Faults:

My valve seals went at 175000.

Gas tank about the same time.

Shocks iffy.

Needed timing belt.

General Comments:

Put a new gas tank in it.

New shocks.

New brakes and tires.

Put instrument cluster with tachometer in it.

Finally had a rebuilt long block and clutch put in.

Just finished my first 500 k break in oil change.

This truck pulls my camper and all, but needs a little body work.

Runs quiet and is what I waited a year to find. For me I don't think there's a better truck on the road that gives 30 miles per gallon, 5 speed manual shift nice and smooth.

At its age it feels new.

1991 Mazda B2200 SE-5 2.2L carb from North America

Summary:

I'm driving this truck until it has nothing left to give

Faults:

For the year and the mileage, it could be worse. Had to replace the rear brakes when I purchased it, as the pedal went to the floor. May need a master cylinder in the future, but I am not going to worry about it now.

Needs a radiator due to the lack of maintenance from the previous owners.

Had small mechanical issues with it when I purchased it, mainly with the carburator, sputtered a lot, hesitated, died, but lots of carburator cleaner, 2 cans of sea-foam seems to have helped. Do need to warm it up completely before moving it, even when it's hot out.

General Comments:

Great gas mileage, average is 22 city, 26 highway, which beats the 12 mpg with my Ford Explorer, which I used as trade to buy the Mazda.

Has been very dependable in the 5000 miles I have put on it since the end of February; has not left me anywhere, has always started.

It can be a little scary to drive, cos the carburator still has issues, so it bucks and jerks even at highway speeds, but it's still a good little truck.
