Car started with a slight squeak in brakes with ended up having to get new rotors and pads. Cost of repair: $800.
Left CV axle was clicking which then ended up having to have both CV axles replaced. Cost of repair: $600.
Engine was idling uncontrollably from the range of 600-2200 RPM, which being a costly repair of having the air control motor and many other parts of the air intake replaced. Cost of repair: approx $2000.
Engine had a small leak which caused poor performance. Cost of repair: $1900.
When I first purchased this car, I loved it. It didn't seem like much was wrong with it, and to my dissatisfaction, everything was wrong with it.
Very fun car to drive, but VERY costly to repair from parts even to labor.
I do not see how it cost $800 to replace your brakes. Rotors for this car are $20 a piece and pads are $20 for front and back sets. That's $140 for parts. So yout telling us they charged you $460 in labor?
CV axles cost for replacement is about $450, it's a common problem on all cars.
"Engine was idling uncontrollably from the range of 600-2200 RPM, which being a costly repair of having the air control motor and many other parts of the air intake replaced. Cost of repair: approx $2000. "
The MX-3 doesn't have an air control motor. It has a Vein Air Flow sensor in the intak tube, its about $800.
"Engine had a small leak which caused poor performance. Cost of repair: $1900."
For a small leak to give you poor performance, it had to be a vaccume leak. $1900 is a bit high for a vaccume leak.
To be honest, I think your mechanic is way over charging you. I have two mx-3's myself and I love these cars. You acquired your car at high mileage and it was 11 years old. Did you think these cars would run perfect forever?
I have an mx3 as well and I had to fix the idle control system. It was free I went to the junk yard and pulled one off the same motor the probe gt has the same motor as well. I put it on myself. Brakes for the good ones (platinum) are 50 dollars each a side and that it for the best ones. The charge you should get to put them on for all four sides should have only been at the highest 400 and that includes rotors. My CV joints click to when I turn and I haven't checked how much that is going to cost yet, but belive me it won't even be close to what you had to pay. I'm sorry my fellow mx3 friend, but you need to start getting your hands dirty and doing it yourself or call around to newmorus places to see what they charge b/c your mechanic is screwing you. It does happen to every car. It is 14 years old. the vacuum leak the other guy was talking about hes right you can't just have a leak in the motor unless your block is cracked or your seals are old and are leaking witch is so easy to fix its fun to do. but the motor block being cracked well that's a major problem like a new engine. Or your air filter could have even needed replaced. not trying to be a dick believe me just trying to get the point across that mx3's are very fun and nice cars just because you have a problem with it like you could with any car even a new show car and took it to and overcharging mechanic doesn't mean you can dog on them.
