2001 Mercedes-Benz S-Class S500 5.0 V8 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Angel on wheels

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

I was really impressed with this car when I first saw it.

It's absolutely beautiful to look at, and the interior has a real awesome presence, you feel like a million bucks when you're driving this car.

I love the way the doors close for you when they are slightly ajar.

The seats are comfortable, but insist on getting the higher quality leather, not the standard stuff.

It's real peaceful driving it plus the suspension is awesome, it literally glides on air.

What was disappointing was the quality of the paint work - I felt that it was un-Mercedes like to be covered in small paint pits from stones or whatever after only having the vehicle for a very small period of time.

This is something that Mercedes has to sort out.

Apart from that I think it's one of the most beautiful cars to own.

Regarding the paint chipping.

It's a common problem with all Mercedes these days since the adoption of the new non-toxic paint. It's weak and does not withstand any form of punishment.

Porsche would be one of the very best vehicles paint & finish wise, 10 out of 10. Then BMW and VW. Mercedes has got to come in fairly low in the paint quality.

2001 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 600 V12 from North America

Summary:

A high performance luxury car

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

How can this car NOT be reliable? With the push of a button someone from Mercedes will come and help you out.

And talk about comfort, these back power seats are wonderful. And the 18 inch AMG wheels are great.

Another feature I liked was the navigation system, wonderful.

Finally someone who can use the COMMAND system. My dad owns an S55 AMG and I have to work it for him if he needs it! And I'm only 15! I just wish he had got a CL instead!

The COMAND system is a nightmare. How anyone can claim it's usable is beyond me. That said, wait for BMW's new iDrive system to go mainstream. It's ergonomically dire, and makes the Benz equivalent look like a clockwork toy...

Why buy 600. It guzzles gas. V 12.

The V-12 doesn't matter, it has a cylinder shut off system, so you only use all 12 cylinders when needed.

If you have the money to buy one of these machines then I don't think even UK petrol prices are that much of a concern.

Bull.

Get real and stop dreaming people.
