1996 Mercury Sable LX 3.0 from North America

Unless you are looking for a way to spend your money, look for another car!

Faults:

Power Steering unit failed at 23,000 miles (Covered on Warranty).

Rack & Pinion had to be replaced at 40,860 miles (Cost: $547.00).

Transmission went out and had to be rebuilt at 65,000 miles (Cost:$1,445.91).

Camshaft Position Sensor and attached module had to be replaced at 71,000 (Cost:$348.00)

General Comments:

I would absolutely love this car, if I could keep it out of the shop. I continue to check the Lemon Laws to see if I can get a little recourse from all of the mechanical problems. I am appalled at the list of problems I have had to deal with. I had hope to keep it for another 6 to 7,000 miles, but I am afraid I will not be able to afford the cost.

I bought this car from the Ford Mercury dealer and have had repairs done there. It has been a lemon since I got it and have spent more money on repairs then the cars value. I would not buy any more of their products.

I currently have a 1996 Mercury Sable. I'm having trouble with the transmission. The car goes into 4th gear when I'm only going 30 mph. I also have trouble with the ABS, the box is broken. My brakes were worked on three times, and the problem, is still not resolved. This car really sucks. I wish I had never spent my money on it.

My first Car Nightmare!! MONEY MONEY MONEY

Transmission going out at 82,000 miles. It goes into 4th gear when I'm only going 30 miles per hour.

It'eats gasoline.

The ABS light stays on. Dealer don't want to fix it only had car for one month. It has been to the shop three times, the brakes are still grinding, and the ABS light is still on.

The CD changer in the trunk doesn't work

1996 Mercury Sable GS 3 Litre from North America

Summary:

I am not impressed

Faults:

We purchased this car with the understanding that it was a one owner (a Ford salesman-retired) vehicle. Less than five months and on my first trip, I ended on the highway with a blown motor. With less than 7 000 km to my credit.

General Comments:

Upon the initial breakdown, the local Ford dealership assured us no problem, we will take care of this!

Now, almost a month later, they have decided that the car is not eligible for the 7 year, 100 000 km warranty???

To my calculations the car's age is 2002 - 1996= 6 yrs and as you can see the mileage is well under the 100 000 km.

1996 Mercury Sable GS 3.0L V-6 from North America

Summary:

An outstanding, high quality family car

Faults:

"Service engine soon" light kept coming on at random intervals, traced to a bad air charge temperature sensor, a $23.27 part. Ended the problem.

ABS brake light stayed on, due to water in the ABS module. Replaced the entire module under warranty. Ended the problem.

General Comments:

This has been the best family car we've ever owned to date! It is very comfortable for a family of 4 on long trips, is very economical with the Vulcan 6 cylinder engine, and has fantastic traction in the snow.
