1994 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 litre inline 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

A great first car, that has a ton of spunk for its size; a perfect choice

Faults:

When bought used, the included tires were/are really cheap.

The cruise control works 10% of the time.

The bumpers are really prone to scratches and scrapes.

In wet weather, it is hard to get out of first gear before slipping.

The factory stereo is terrible and a $150 replacement system is necessary.

The stick shift and the steering wheel get hot very, very fast, and can scorch you if you are not careful.

General Comments:

The car transitions between gears like a dream.

It has been forgiving ever since I learned stick on it, and taught my friends how to drive stick on it.

It revs very high, and you can go 60 MPH in 3rd if you need to or want to. I can make the car go 0-60 MPH in a blazing 8 seconds, and I am sure I could get it faster.

The air conditioning gets cold really fast. Overall, the climate control is above average.

Everything is very responsive, including the braking system. If needed, the anti-lock brakes kick in immediately, stopping the car on a dime.

1994 Nissan Altima GXE from North America

Summary:

A high perfomance bargain

Faults:

When I first bought this car the distributor cap busted and cost around 1000 dollars to get fixed (including other minor details).

General Comments:

This car is a nice first car especially for a 16 year old. I would recommend it to anybody who can't afford a luxury car, but this car is a luxury car. The interior is great and the top speed is 120 mph.

How many miles did the car have when needing a new distributor cap? I'm thinking of trading my 1994 Ford Ranger (which runs nicely) for a 1994 Nissan Altima GXE and I've heard rave reviews, but I sure can't afford $1200 to fix an old car.

1994 Nissan Altima GXE 4 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Outstanding value. Why spend money on a Maxima?

Faults:

During the time I owned the car (86k-130k) miles, I only had to fix the vent fan, which only worked on high. The cost was about $100.

General Comments:

The car was incredibly reliable, and got over 30mpg on the highway (well above the speed limit). I used it to travel between college and home (400 miles), and it was perfect. I took my cruise control off once, and after a few moments looked at the speedometer and realized I was going 105mph. I didn't even know, the car just hummed. Much more comfortable than a Mazda 626 I have driven lately.

1994 Nissan Altima GXE 4 cyl 2.4 L from North America

Summary:

Good buy

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Even over the 100,000 this car performs like new. After a few maintenance precautions were taken, the car has improved performance, gas mileage, and handling. I changed the tires, drive belts and have needed no additional repairs.

1994 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 Litre from North America

Faults:

The only thing that has ever required repairs outside of general maintenance was a recall to fix the throttle cable. The dealer made this fix quickly and there has not been a single problem with the vehicle since then.

General Comments:

This car was obtained as a lease vehicle in 12/93. When the lease expired in 12/97, we purchased the car because it is such a reliable, comfortable, and stylish car. It now has 54K and it has been flawless. It is economical to operate, general maintenance is minimal, and is fairly comfortable. The features provided for the price are excellent. For 18K we have the full power package including power moon roof.

The car does lack low end power; however, it was not designed to be fast. It does have adequate power for passing and runs smoothly on the highway at 85MPH. I wish the radio was a bit stronger; however, it is satisfactory for most people.

Everything about this car represents excellent quality. The fit and finish is excellent. Resale value on the car remains excellent. We look at the new Altima's; however, they just don't look as pretty and refined as the previous model.
