2001 Pontiac Aztek GT 3.4L from North America

Summary:

I LOVE THIS SUV!

Faults:

The Vehicle has been good to me.

Only a few problems have developed due to standard use and wear and tear:

The O2 sensors needed replacing at 80,000 miles.

A coolant leak has shown up at 86,000 but is very small and too hard to locate until it gets worse.

When I bought the car, the sheet metal on the door was rusting slightly.

General Comments:

The Aztek has plenty of power to move you and your cargo.

Plenty of cargo room in the back.

There is some lack of leg room for the passengers in the rear.

There are many great features that come with the vehicle. Some include an in-dash cooler, HUD, seat warmers, 6 CD changer, air pump, and many more.

There is a great tent feature that can attach off the back when parked.

2001 Pontiac Aztek from North America

Summary:

Great when it is working. Expensive when it is not

Faults:

Condenser cracked at about 29,000 miles.

Seats wearing badly.

Brake rotors warp easily. Had a brake job done with the rotors cut. Within 6 months brake began pulsating again.

Rear hatch won't pop open from the control in the dash.

Door lock on drivers side works intermittently.

Key-less entry key chain breaks very easily. (On my 3rd key chain)

When I go to stop, the car's rpm's jump up dramatically. When I put it in park, they climb to about 2500 rpm's.

General Comments:

When the car is working, it is a great car with plenty of room.

2001 Pontiac Aztek from North America

Summary:

Overall I would rate it a 8 out of 10

Faults:

At 3 years or around 16,000 miles my AC Condenser went out, but SUV was still under warranty. One year later the AC compressor went out on me after the warranty ran out and I was told it will cost $900.00 for a new one. To me this is unacceptable for two AC parts to go out before the vehicle is 5 years old. I still have no AC! Should be a recall on ALL AC parts.

Only a year after I bought the vehicle I had to have the passenger rear light assembly replaced because the top coating started to come off and it looked dull and ugly, now the rear driver light assembly is the same way, but I would have to replace at the cost of around $280.00.

Also had to replace the battery (without warning) after 4 years. Thought the battery had ware down indicators?

Now, 9-9-06 I can't get my rear hatch open, only lights flash when I press the remote rear button.

Called dealer and of course they said they don't know whats wrong and to bring it in so I waste more money.

Love my Aztec, but think GM should talk to us all about these problems.

Yes, I rate them at least an 8 out of 10 on the Ugly Scale, along with the Isuzu Vehicross, Honda element, & Chrysler PT Cruiser. (The Scion xB is not too far behind either)

Any votes for Cars of yesteryear on the high side of the ugly scale??? I would say that the AMC Pacer tops the list! A friend of mine had one in college, poor guy couldn't get a date until he sold it!!! (This was before "Wayne's World" however.)

2001 Pontiac Aztek from North America

Summary:

I love my Aztek!

Faults:

When I first got it the car would not start. Was the battery and the dealer replaced it.

Around 40,000 the transmission completely went. Fortunately it was still under the extended warranty and the dealer replaced it with a NEW transmission from the factory!

Gas gauge quit working about 70,000 and.

There is a strange clicking noise that has not been diagnosed yet.

General Comments:

I have been thinking about trading in this car mostly because of the high mileage and fear of added repair bills. BUT/... I really LOVE this car.

I get really good gas mileage. I can get up to 35mpgs highway and 22 around town.

Sound system is AWESOME!!!

Camping is fun... as long as it is in the cooler months!

Visibility can be scary... not good!
